I don’t know what time it is because my watch stopped on impact. Running smack into a tree tends to do things like that. But what does it matter, how many hours go by? We have the rest of forever to sit here. We have all the time in the world. Right? We’re dead. As if I could forget that little fact. I stand up and stretch—my back is starting to hurt sitting on that damn bench. He looks up at me but doesn’t speak. He’s still being a d**k and hasn’t said a word since I brushed off his stupid joke. That’s fine. He’ll get over it. “I love you,” I tell him, tugging at the chain between us until he stands. “Kiss me.” He does. No matter how miffed he gets at me, he always does what I say. How can I not love him for that? Even if he’s the reason we’re dead. Just to clear the air
