Chapter 3- Sheila Marie's Eyes

986 Words
The etching noise that lightly strolled across the hospital room window was enough to send Sheila Marie back straight up like a bold in pitch twilight, as a raw sweat washed over her face and a hard knot constricted her throat, making it hard to breathe. Her hands clasp her chest when it beats harder than before. Yet, her thoughts were accelerating inside her head. She wished they would slow down so she could breathe, but they didn't. Her breaths came in gasps, then stopped. She then succumbed to her consciousness. A day passed. Sheila Marie woke up again with the buzzing sound of her surroundings. Her eyes were blurry. She was confused for a moment. "What happens, why am I even alive?" Sheila Marie murmured as her brows knitted and she snuck her nose in the air. "What the heck is that smell? Julius?" She turned her head around and glanced up to the ceiling. "... what the bloody hell..." she was even more perplexed. How could she see the specs on the ceiling, like it was so close and so clear? How could she see such tiny specs that she had never seen before? Odd. She hears noises that she doesn't seem to hear before and the disturbances of the traffic outside. The sounds of people talking behind the walls were so loud and even the chirping of birds from the distant park were ringing in her ears. The heartbeats of the people outside her room were so loud as everything was in HD and on a loudspeaker. How could she hear everything? Also, her head hurts with the new sensation. Painful. Everything was audible, and she was getting dizzy, confused by such drastic and unforeseen events. What the hell happened? What happens to her? The last thing she remembers was taking her dying last breath. The pain, the burning sensation, the anguish that broke her mind and her very soul. Wait, am I even alive? She asked herself again and wrinkled her nose in the air as if breathing in the familiar scent. The door opened and Julius emerged as he plastered a tiny smile on his face. "There you are, sleepyhead, thank the gods!" "Oh, Julius... What happens? How long was I asleep? " "Oh, dear! You don't remember?" He stared at her and noticed something had changed. It felt like he couldn't get himself away from her, like he had been hypnotized. Her fresh grassy green colour swirled into him as she gazed at him. Sheila Marie looked, and Julius could feel himself becoming enthralled by the changing colors. A momentary look of discomfort crossed his face. And his smile was forced as he attempted to hide his concern. The lines of stress form on his forehead. He moved closer to her and stopped. For the second time, his brows weaved. Sheila Marie smiled and spots of gold danced in her irises and grew to swallow red, then it was gone like it had never been there. "Unfortunately, no," Sheila replied. She had still not recovered from his intense stare. Why is he looking at her strangely? Then Julius unexpectedly added His trance-like mood was gone like it never happened. "Don't ever do that to me again. You almost gave me a heart attack." "Why?" Her brows knitted. "Are you out of your mind? You've been out of the grasp of Sheila, and you scared me!" Julius trailed off, watching her closely, he squinted at her, "...Oh! Myself, Sheila Marie, your eyes look so green now! It was never green, you have brown eyes, remember? " Julius whispered and added, "...Oh! That is so creepy! How on earth did that happen? Eye color doesn't change, right? " "Really?" She answered and stared at him, not sure what to say. Julius felt a sudden stab of anxiety in the gut. Looking at her, Julius marveled. Sheila Marie's eyes were green but not the kind of shade that's simple to discern. It was nearly like they were both green and gold at the same time, with scarlet creeping in around the edges as if it were trying to take over. Unaware, he felt something so strange and sentimental at the same time. So scary and odd. He remembers the feeling when he thought he would lose her. Like it happened again. When the tears weren't even halfway done, Julius was empty. He couldn't have cried even if he wanted to. He hadn't experienced this feeling before. The sadness was still there, but not as raw as before – now it was empty unhappiness. There were some primitive urges to cry, to be sad, yet watching her alive and well made him thankful. However, looking at her eyes, Julius could feel the need to cry. Somehow, Sheila Marie had given him hope. Something was changing her and he could feel it in the depths of his guts. She made her feel something akin to his emotional state. There was something thoughtful swimming in Julius' eyes. Their stunning, intense blue carried the truth that his face could not disguise. The despairing coolness that they implied made Sheila Marie feel miserable. However, Julius looked away; he couldn't bear it. What was usually a strength, now showed shortcomings. What used to be joy now showed sadness. Then a tear rolled down his cheek. Sheila Marie didn't see it but could feel him crying beside her. "What's wrong Jul?" She asked in concern. Since when he became so emotional? Julius thought of what had happened. Perhaps his eyes need to be soaked by his tears once in a while so that he can see with a clearer view again, so settling her hand on his arm. "I'm alive, okay? I'm fine, I'm not living with you. " Sheila gave a slight, hopeful, promising smile. He smiled back, and at that minute, they knew everything was going to be alright.
