Vienna jumped when the phone rang. "Theodore, Theodore, and Associates, this is Vienna. How may I direct your call? She heard someone rattle a name and knew that the lawyer's assistant should be at her desk. "Hold for a moment so I can transfer you to his assistant." Transferring the call, she sighed, leaning back in her seat.
The smell of coffee reached her nose, and she inhaled deeply. She was an absolute coffee lover. Turning her head, she smiled when she saw Stuart next to her with a cup of coffee.
"You looked like you were in real need," Stuart said to Vienna.
Stuart did not look like their typical security officers. He looked more like a handsome model, well built, muscular, and Vienna could not fault the girls around the office for trying to get his attention. "You are such a lifesaver." She took a sip and smiled. "It is like heaven. Thank you so much, Stuart."
"Let me know if you need anything." He chuckled and headed back to his desk.
"Thank you so much." A few of the younger assistants came in and gave her a look that let her know they did not think she was worthy of Stuart's attention. Vienna rolled her eyes, almost laughing out loud when both girls tried to get Stuart's attention. Since he had started working there, their skirts had got a lot shorter.
The rest of the morning went well. When Rhea came to relieve her for lunch, Vienna thanked her and headed out. The sun was shining brightly and the outdoors were beckoning her today. She had an urge to sit out and enjoy it.
Taking a few steps, she bumped into what felt like a solid wall. Hearing a bunch of papers hitting the ground she realized that she might have bumped into someone. "Oh crap, I am so sorry," Vienna said as she bent down to help pick up the papers. A pair of male hands began helping her as well, and as she looked up at a warm pair of golden-brown eyes, her breath got caught in her throat.
"No, it is my fault. I should have been paying more attention," Vienna said.
His voice was deep and sent a chill up her spine. With all the papers gathered, she felt his hand take hers in order to help her up. Standing, she bit down on her lower lip. "Here, these are yours," she said.
"Thank you," he said, taking the papers from her.
Smiling, she continued walking until she heard him say, "I hate to bother you, but I was wondering if you could help me." Stopping, she turned and he smiled. "I was actually looking for a decent place to eat. Could you recommend something nearby?"
"There are a few places within walking distance that are pretty good, depending on what you are in the mood for," Vienna replied.
The man grinned. He had spiky dark brown hair with blue eyes. He was dressed in a pair of slacks that hugged his muscular thighs very well, and a shirt that clung to his chest, Vienna could bet the rest of his body was just as hard. "I am sorry to bother you if you are in a hurry," he said.
Thinking he was way too sexy for his own good, she found her breath caught. "No, actually, I was just on my lunch break," Vienna replied.
He ran his fingers through his hair. "Would it be forward if I asked to join you? I am new to this town and eating alone again does not really appeal to me," he said.
Vienna tilted her head, thinking about it. "Actually, I was just going to grab a sandwich at this little sandwich shop around the corner and eat it in the courtyard."
Liam watched her and had a funny feeling he was being more forward than she was used to. He was although very surprised that she had not walked away. "Do you mind if I join you?"
He observed that she was thinking about it before she finally said, "Umm, okay. Well, you can join me."
He smiled, feeling she was a wee bit nervous. "Great, my name is Liam, Liam Redwood." He offered his hand.
"It is nice to meet you, I am Vienna Steven."
When she walked past him, he inhaled. Vienna's scent was a mixture of lavender and a meadow after a rain. It was very clean and earthy. His dragon was having a very weird reaction to her, and he found himself fighting for control over the dragon. His skin was feeling itchy as his dragon let him know he wanted to get out.
Liam told his dragon, 'I cannot shift in public, and if I suddenly turn into a dragon, most likely the girl might be afraid. Relax.' He could then hear his dragon huff before settling down, but it stayed close to the surface.
"Thanks again for letting me tag along," he said, pulling open the door to 'The Bistro' a small restaurant, and holding it for her.
She smiled. "This place has some great sandwiches. They make their bread fresh every morning. I can sometimes smell it when people open the restaurant door."
Liam watched her as she smiled at the young guy behind the counter.
"Hey Vienna, how is work today?" the young guy asked.
"Good so far, but happy tomorrow's Saturday." She glanced at the menu. "Can I get a grilled chicken sandwich with some extra cheese, french fries, and a Coke?"
Liam ordered a cheesesteak sandwich, and also ordered french fries and a Coke. Walking over to where she was waiting for her order, he smiled. "The food here truly smells wonderful."
Vienna bit her bottom lip and Liam fought the sudden urge to kiss where she had bitten. "'The Bistro' is one of my favorite places," she said.
Leaning their back against a wall, they waited in silence for their orders to be ready. He watched her out of the corner of his eye. She smiled politely at a few of the employees and asked them questions about their lives.
When their orders were finally ready, Vienna led him back out to the courtyard, where they would be able to sit and eat on a pleasantly sunny, breezy afternoon.
