Chapter One

1236 Words
Riley had been running since school let out. Today was her eighteenth birthday, not that it mattered. She had been tormented by the people of the Silversin Pack for years. People there didn’t normally spend time with humans in fact, mortals were not normally permitted on pack-lands, due to the mortal’s usual distaste and hate towards their kind. Riley had always been told that she was not mortal, just human like, especially without the presence of a powerful wolf to back her. She was treated like human filth, expected to accept her punishment for being exactly what she is. Riley was orphaned as a small child, her adoptive parents were enforcers for the Alpha King, and found her mother Cecilia mortally wounded and dragging a child behind her. It was assumed that she came from the burning ruins of a nearby pack, assumably, Redwood. However, there was nothing to back up that claim, just a dying werewolf and the child she left behind. Alpha King Nicholas hid away the things he dug up about the incident, hoping to protect Riley, and pass her off as a normal human until she could gain a wolf of her own. For some reason, it never came. Nicholas believed that the trauma of her mother’s death delayed her transformation, and hoped that one day she would rise to be the wolf he knew she was capable of. “Come back here little b***h!” Riley heard Kamilla screaming as she, and her two lackeys Rachel and Veronica chased through behind her. Kamilla was the unofficial queen B of the pack, and had the Alpha prince, wrapped around her perfectly manicured fingers. They were fast, the strongest of the younger pack members, but Riley had been playing this game for a long time. She cut off the main path and picked up her pace. She dived over a thick pile of brush. She rolled back over onto her feet and kept running. Her pants were now covered in dirt and twigs. She could now faintly see her house in sight, she pushed harder, faintly hearing the angry voices behind her. She ran down the sidewalk and gripped the top of her gate, and vaulted over, she landed swiftly on her feet and crashed through the front door with a loud bang and slammed it behind her, stopping only to lock it tight. Only now, did Riley allow herself to breathe. “Oh my god, Riley! What happened to your clothes?!” Riley took the opportunity to finally look down and she looked back at her mom with a sheepish expression. “Is it that Reinhart girl again? I’m gonna tell the King immediately!” “No, it’s fine. I’m faster than them.” A fact that no one has seemed to understand. No one understood, how a seemingly human girl could outrun a group of werewolves at their enhanced speed. Riley was nimble, and quick. A skill most humans, didn’t possess. “Mom, don’t worry. I’m gonna go take a shower. Dinner smells really good.” She kissed Allison on the cheek, and headed upstairs. Riley peeled off her muddy clothes and threw them in the hamper and turned on the hot water. She stepped under the stream, and worked on thoroughly cleaning herself. She worked the shampoo through her dark hair and conditioned it after, she scrubbed herself clean and stepped out. She changed into a clean pair of jeans, and a blue long sleeved shirt. She went downstairs in time for dinner with her parents. Her mother kept fussing about Riley’s bullying problem, and Riley kept insisting things were fine and not to get anything started. About an hour later, Riley went out to take a walk after dinner and forget about things for a while. She walked out towards the lake, and once she got there she climbed up onto the small boulder on the side and watched the sun slowly fall pass the horizon. She caught the scent of sandlewood and spice, it was pretty faint, but she concentrated on the water, letting herself forget about her worries for a while. She wanted to be alone for the rest of her birthday, but knew her mom was probably preparing cupcakes by now. She was sitting alone, sighing happily as she stared out when someone dragged her off harshly by the wrist. She wasn’t an i***t, she could recognize the Alpha Prince anywhere. Keidan smelled so good, and when his dark eyes met her bright green ones, a deep growl resonated from his throat. “Mate.” Riley was confused, she was a reject, so far her wolf hadn’t made itself known yet, and the eyes that stared at her turned from dark orbs to bright yellow as he peered down at her. “This has to be a joke.” He laughed bitterly looking away from her and then yanking her down beneath him as he pinned her arms roughly above her head on the ground. “Keidan!” She choked, under his crushing weight. “Reject me, Keidan. Reject me so you can keep Kamilla and not be stuck with a worthless human like me. That’s what you wanted to say right?” She spat back viciously. Something seemed to take over Keidan, he seemed to be fighting something back within himself, his eyes continued to glow that golden amber color. “I can’t… my wolf he doesn’t want to, he wants to claim you as mate. You have to..” Kiedan was in shock. He had this worthless girl beneath his grasp and he wanted to reject her. She was nothing, less than nothing. However, there was a power that engulfed her. An aura that made her body hot to touch, those deep green eyes, that dark hair, perfect pink skin and a seductive body begging for him to claim her. She didn’t have the largest amount of breast, but they were perfectly proportioned to her body shape and simple curves. He wanted to taste her, take her, mark her and he didn’t know how to stop. “Keidan! Get off!” She was resisting him. She was resisting the bond, and then he saw it, the hidden shadows in her eyes, there was a subtle hue hiding within. There was a wolf in there, but it seemed to be dormant. There’s a powerful wolf hiding in there, my soul recognizes her as mate… Claim her! She is mate! I won’t allow you to choose anyone else. We want mate… Keidan wanted to argue with Artemis. A growl resonated from deep inside. She is mate! Keidan shook his head solemnly and slid his face to her neck and inhaled her sent. “My wolf said he won’t allow anyone else. You are mate, and we want to claim what is ours.” He whispered as he nipped at her neck softly. Riley’s chest heaved as she took soft ragged breaths. Something deep inside her was reacting to this advance. Mm… Yes, this is our mate. Riley’s eyes widened. As she listened to the female voice inside her head. You don’t need to be frightened Riley. We’re becoming whole, I was just sleeping, but now we’re together and just in time for mate. Yes, we like him very much. Riley was thinking in her head. Who are you? Riley… My name is Namira. I’m your wolf.
