Chapter 3 MARILYN He won’t even look at me in the eye. The husky roar of Jesse’s deep voice rolls on the edge of rumbling thunder, and we face off in the large master bedroom in Heath’s penthouse apartment, just as the sky splits like the parting of a deep gray sea, dumping icy rain—the downpour is the only noise in the room apart from my heavy breathing. Too shocked to form coherent words, I gaze absently into the air, my mind scrambling to put the pieces of our sudden scene together.
