It was some time after midnight when she finally decided to do the final act. She had watched Trey slept for a while. The man’s breathing had settled into a rhythm. That was when Scarlett knew that the man was already deeply asleep.
Still, in a gecko form, she crawled into the floorboard. Then, quietly, she changed into her human form. Her naked human form. She could only transform her body, not her clothes.
She took several silent steps near the bed, taking one dagger from the table without making a single sound. Her breathing was almost non-existent, a technique she learned in her early childhood. She observed the man sleeping in front of her. He had curly black hair, a strong jaw, and a prominent nose. His lips were not so thick and not so thin. Scarlett had to admit, he looked rather lovely.
With deadly silence and quick precision, Scarlett climbed on top of him. She pinned his big two arms with her knees as she sat on top of the blanket over his stomach. Before he could respond, Scarlett had put the dagger on his neck.
The man opened his eyes in shock. He was about to move, but Scarlett shushed him. “Don’t mov–“
She stopped her sentence midway as she looked straight into his deep and grey eyes. She was sure it was grey in color even though the room was dark.
Her heart stopped. And she could feel under her palm that his heartbeat stopped, too. His body temperature raised as well. Or perhaps it was Scarlett’s own body temperature.
No.
No. No. No.
This does not make sense!
His grey eyes did not blink even once. Neither did hers. More like they could not blink.
Then she felt it. Underneath the blanket, where she sat on top of his body. She felt it hardening. With only one thin fabric separating their skin, she could almost feel the length of his manhood. Suddenly, her breath hitched as she felt her core moistened.
Hell no.
NO!
She also felt her n*****s hardened. And her skin that did not touch him felt utterly cold. The urge to touch him more arose like a fire unwilling to be blown out.
He did not even try to move one bit. Did not even try to topple Scarlett when he could easily do so when she hesitated.
She could also have killed him right then. She could have ended it right then. She was hellbent on having revenge ….
But neither took another action.
What is wrong with you??, she asked herself, Finish HIM!
Suddenly, deep inside her, a voice awakened. A voice that she had not heard for a long time. A voice that she had almost forgotten.
Her wolf shouted inside her, shattering every glass of reality inside her mind.
MATE!!, she shouted, He is your MATE!!
“No…,” Scarlett whispered, “It can’t be.”
Trey looked like he was about to say something, but immediately Scarlett hit his head hard with the hilt of the dagger she was holding. Trey shouted in pain as blood trickled down his forehead.
Shit. He is not unconscious.
The loud sound made his other two companions rushed to his room. Scarlett only had a second. So, when Trey was still covering his eyes due to the pain, she used it to transform into a dragonfly. She was already hovering in the air when Rain and Boy entered the room.
Feeling that the weight on top of him was gone, Trey forced his eyes to open wide. When he saw that the red-haired girl was no more, he sniffed the air. Her smell had been imprinted on him at that quick second when they only stared at each other. It was the same smell he had been trying to find.
Meanwhile, Scarlett rushed to fly to the door. She flew into the corridor without looking back, knowing Trey would be able to smell her now. Scarlett had to move fast. She flew with viciousness to her room on the first floor. As she only had a few seconds, she only grabbed her cloak and boots, along with her sharpened dagger.
Suddenly, her door was opened forcefully. A naked man, along with two men in their pajamas, barged in. But when Scarlett’s emerald eyes connected to Trey’s grey eyes, she had already jumped outside the window. She thrust her dagger to the building’s wall to halt her fall. With agility, she then jumped perfectly on the cobbled road.
It was a dark and lonely night full of mist. The moon was almost full, and it shone brightly without any clouds. As if the Moon Goddess would not miss this whole debauchery, the joke of the century.
Scarlett gave Trey one last look. She did not know what to make of this turn of events. But she was angry.
Angry at him for being her mate. Even more, she was angry at herself who could not kill her own mate.
Does it matter if he was her mate? A villain is a villain. A corrupted soul is a corrupted soul. They should all be punished. They should all burn in hell, regardless if they have mates or not.
Just because Scarlett was his mate, it doesn’t mean she has the responsibility to accept him.
Yet… the words of rejection would not form in her mouth. Just like her hand could not strike his heart.
“Wait–“ he started to shout. But by then, Scarlett had already run, disappearing behind the mist.
