-Connor POV-
“Yeah, we should go there after our classes are done.” Leon says as we walk to the next class that we all have together.
“Sounds good.” I nod and agree.
“Yeah, I’ll tell the others to meet us there.” Tinsley says.
‘So, Amy is going?’ My wolf, Thoth, asks with curiosity.
‘Maybe. If she feels like it. You know she doesn’t like going out much.’ I say.
‘Mh.’
‘What?’ I ask.
‘Nothing.’ He says.
‘That "Mh" was not nothing. What is it?’
‘Nothing.’ He responds again.
‘You know we like her.’ I say.
‘I do not!’
‘Yeah, you do and so do I.’
‘She is a menace. She is dangerous.’ He says.
‘Yet you can’t seem to stop yourself from running to her when she is in danger... or when we are drunk.’
Silence fills my head for a few seconds until he finally responds. ‘Instincts and intoxication.’
I roll my eyes. ‘Sure.’
I know he likes her. He is intrigued by her but he is also afraid of her and I can’t blame him. She is not fully in control of her powers and she could easily kill us. But he likes her, I know it because I do too.
We all stop our conversation when we suddenly hear people screaming and running from the hall we are walking towards.
“What is going on?” Leon asks but no one answers. They just rush past us.
We rush our way through the people that are running the opposite way and make it in time to see Amy in flames.
Thoth and I—without even thinking about it—start to run towards her but Leon holds me back.
“You can’t!” He says.
I look back at Amy. It seems she is trying to fight her powers. She kneels down with her fisted hands on her head while she rocks herself back and forth.
Some of the other students are rolling on the floor around her, trying to put out the flames on their bodies as they scream.
“Amy!” Tinsley shouts but Amy can’t hear her.
“Amy!” I also shout but still, she can’t hear us.
Tinsley suddenly runs in towards Amy and wraps her arms around her in a hug. Tinsley’s clothes start to catch fire but not her skin. Fire doesn’t hurt her because of her Hollow abilities.
Amy—looking startled—opens her eyes and after a few seconds of thinking, she hugs Tinsley back. It seems this all calms her and the fire starts to simmer down until they are completely gone. Curiously, Amy’s clothes do not burn as Tinsley’s does.
Leon and I quickly help the students that are hurt. Thankfully, they are all werewolves and the burns will heal easily though it will take some time.
One of them, a big-looking fella, starts to stutter.
“She...sh... sh... is.... sh... not a va... vampire.”
“No.” I say, confused, and look back at Amy. “What happened?”
Amy starts explaining and now I just want to punch this dumbass kid.
Soon, teachers arrive and take the hurt students to the infirmary. While Leon goes with Tinsley to get a change of clothes, I help Amy to Marco’s office.
“Are you okay?” I ask her.
“Am I okay? Yeah, I wasn’t the one who got hurt.” She says.
“Yeah, well they had it coming.”
“No, they didn’t. I shouldn’t have gotten so angry over something so stupid.” She says. “I... couldn’t control my anger and my powers took over.”
At this moment, I really want to hug her and tell her that everything is going to be okay. But I am afraid she wouldn't like that. She is different than most girls. She is special... at least to me she is.
“Do you think it’s your demon blood?” I ask.
We stop in front of the door to Marco’s office.
“Could be. It seems things inside me are getting worse.” She says.
‘See, she’s dangerous.’ Thoth says.
‘Okay, fine. Then we won’t talk to her again.’ I say to him.
‘No! That’s not what I am telling you to do.’ He panics.
I chuckle. ‘See. You like her.’
“Connor?” She asks seeing that I am just standing there.
“Sorry, talking to my wolf.”
She nods, understanding but looks up at me. “Are you afraid?”
"Afraid?" I ask.
She nods. "Are you afraid of me?"
“I won’t lie. I am. I don’t have those amber eyes like my cousin Leon or Marco so I can’t just come back from the dead as they do. You are my friend and you might not have full control of your powers but I still know you are good. That much I know. So, I’m not going anywhere.”
I open the door before she can say anything else.
I can talk with her like this fine but why the hell can’t I just ask her out!?
“Hey, Amy?” I ask.
She starts to walk into the office but stops and looks back at me. “Yeah?”
“Uh... nothing.”
She gives me a small smile and turns back around where we both face Marco.
“So... what happened?” Marco asks without looking away from the papers in his hands as if he wasn’t surprised that we were there.
“Ah... well... an incident happened downstairs.” Amy says.
He takes a sip from his coffee mug, finally puts the papers down, and looks at us.
“Yeah? Who was it? Tinsley, Garnet, or you...” He sighs as he looks at Amy. “Or was it Abigail this time?... goddess help us.” He mumbles.
Amy and I sit on the sofa in front of his desk as he says this and I almost laugh because he seems to have been expecting it but then I realize something.
God! The women in our school are dangerous.
‘Yeah, you think?’ Thoth answers with sarcasm at my thought.
“Me.” Amy responds to Marco's question.
“Couldn't even give it a day before trying to burn down the school?” He chuckles. “How bad was it?”
“Some students got hurt but they’ll be fine.” I say. “And the school is still one hundred percent okay.”
He nods. “Okay. Now tell me what happened?”
Amy repeats to Marco everything she told me downstairs.
Marco stays silent carefully listening and then when Amy is done, he stays deep in thought. Before he can say anything, the front door opens. Ezekiel and Aurora walk in.
“Seriously Ezekiel, in all those centuries that you have lived, did you never learn manners?” Marco asks, irritated.
“Manners? Of course I did. I have the bests of manners.” Ezekiel says.
“Then knock next time!” Marco almost shouts.
“Sorry.” Aurora says. “We just wanted to let you know that we were back.”
Marco nods. “Alright. We’ll discuss everything now.” Marco looks at Amy. “As for you, I think it’s best that you start training with both Charlotte and Aurora since she is back now.”
“Why? Did something happen?” Aurora asks, sitting down next to Amy.
I look at Amy and I am surprised to see her not paying attention. She seems fixated on Aurora’s satchel which you can clearly see houses a large book.
“I’ll fill you in.” Marco says and then looks at Amy. “We’ll prepare a schedule so that you can train around your classes. For now, go back to your day as normal.”
Amy now looks at him and nods. We both get up but Amy gives Aurora’s satchel one last look.
‘Seems she likes it.’ Thoth says. ‘Maybe we should get her one.’
‘Oh? But I thought you didn’t like her?’
‘I... I never said that... it’s just... she’s a ticking time bomb.’ He says.
‘Then... should we leave her and not talk to her anymore?’ That is something I don’t intend to really do but I just want to see his reaction.
‘No!’ He screams out but says nothing else.
I almost laugh at his outburst.
It seems I have a really shy wolf. At least he is when it comes to Amy. Seriously, he’s a mess every time we are with her and I know it’s because he likes her. I’m sure he wants her as our mate even though he doesn’t realize it himself.
Once Amy and I are outside, we both stand there looking very awkward.
“So... lunch?” I ask.
“Uhu?” She says but she is clearly distracted.
“It’s almost lunchtime. Do you want to go down to the cafeteria and wait for the others?” I ask.
She seems like she finally snaps out of it. “Oh... yeah. Okay.”
As we walk down to the cafeteria, I have to ask again.
“Are you sure you are okay? If I am honest here Amy, I know you are not okay. Something is bothering you.”
She stops walking and stares at me for a bit. I give her a small smile reassuring her that everything is okay.
“Well... I did something but...” She looks around us, making sure no one is listening to us. “It’s not something I should talk about here.”
She did do something?
The fact that she is trusting me right now does not go unnoticed. She has never opened up to me and I can feel Thoth excited at the thought that she is confiding in us.
“Do you want to come to my room?!” I blurt out and I am surprised at myself.
My eyes are wide as I see the look of confusion and surprise on her face.
“...Umh...” No words come out of her.
‘Why?! Why did I ask that?! This was you!’ I say to Thoth.
‘I... I... no it wasn’t.’
‘Yes, it was you, dummy!’
He sighs. He can't argue this. I know it was him.
‘You could have just given me the idea and I would have worked through it. Made it smoother than just looking like an i***t creep right now!’ I say.
‘Whatever, deal with it now!’ He says.
Amy stands still stunned.
“Umh... I mean... after lunch, do you want to come to my room. We can just hang out, relax and we can talk about whatever it is you did.” I put a hand on my chest and another up on the side. “I promise, I won’t judge you.”
She gives me a small smile and nods. “Okay.”
‘Safe!' I say to Thoth. 'You big Dummy!’ He growls at me.
'For now." He says.
'You dick.'
