-Amy POV-
After leaving Charlotte, I head downstairs to the cafeteria where I quickly spot Tinsley and Leon.
As I look around the room, people stare at me with fear and I can’t blame them. They are scared of me. My powers are unpredictable.
I quickly scurry to the empty chair in front of them and sit. They are already in conversation.
“He’s going to flunk me on purpose this year.” Leon says.
Tinsley shakes her head. “He won’t. Mr. Martinez is too scared of your mom now.”
“He he he.” Leon smugly laughs and mumbles. “She would hand him his ass on a silver platter.”
Tinsley laughs. "But not before she gives him a heart attack."
Tinsley turns her attention toward me. “Hey, Amy. How have you been? What have you been up to this whole summer?”
I can’t really tell them that I have been torturing my father.
“Nothing much. Just catching up on my reading.”
“Reading about kinky werewolf s*x probably.” Garnet says, appearing from behind me.
I gasp. “No! That’s not it!”
I am lying a bit. They are werewolf books and some of them do have s*x scenes. I can’t help it that I like werewolf romance books. They are just so... so... romantic.
Garnet laughs and sits next to me. “Oh Amy, you are so easy to tease.”
I squint my eyes at him. “You know, you deserve this.” I point at him, wiggling my finger up and down his male body.
“I knew you didn’t want to help me!” He says dramatically.
My eyes spot Connor who walks into the cafeteria. I can see that he intends to come our way but a few girls stop him to make conversation. I can’t deny that it bothers me. I have a tiny crush on him but he will never know that.
I bring my attention back to Garnet. “I can’t undo Charlotte's hex but if I could... I’m not sure I would because sometimes you can be an ass."
He gasps. “Yes, you would. Despite looking like a dark scary evil witch, you are too nice.”
I'm not sure if that was an insult or a compliment but knowing him, it was probably both.
His phone starts chiming and he now starts to look stressed out. He slams the phone on the table and then puts his hand through his hair.
“What is wrong?” Tinsley asks.
“My boyfriends!” He says dramatically. “They want to see me and now I am screwed. They can’t see me like this! They expect my female self! Damnit Charlotte!”
Suddenly, Cole appears. He takes a cheese cube from Leon’s tray and pops it in his mouth as he sits next to Tinsley. He gives her a smile and winks at her, then turns his attention to Garnet.
“You should probably go ask Charlotte for forgiveness.” He says.
“NEVER!” Garnet shouts dramatically.
Leon, who has been staring at Cole with his eyes narrowed, gives a small growl.
We all know that Cole does it on purpose. He used to like Tinsley but now that she is mated to Leon, he has no chance with her. He still likes to aggravate Leon and it works.
“Boy’s... don’t.” Tinsley says with a warning.
I get lost in my thoughts thinking about how lucky she is. Having two male werewolves wanting her. How I wish I had that problem.
I look in Connor’s direction where he is still talking to the girls. He is a beta and if I know my werewolf stuff right, female werewolves are very attracted to him. By instincts, she-wolves are attracted to strength, and Alphas and betas are the strongest of a pack.
Just my luck to be crushing on a guy that has plenty of options. Uh! How I wish he wanted me. But why would he? I am the scary girl who everyone is afraid to be near. Though he is different. I think that the reason I like him is that he’s so nice. He is always super nice to me and never seems to be scared of me like everyone else is.
His beautiful green eyes suddenly meet mine as I am lost in thought and he gives me a big smile. I awkwardly return the smile and turn back to the others, feeling my cheeks flush.
“We did NOT sleep together!” An irritated Cole shouts at a smug-looking Leon and then he looks at Garnet. “Tell him we didn’t!”
Garnet squints his eyes at Cole. “And what would be the problem if we had?”
I look up, thinking with a finger under my chin. “Was this when we went to Vegas?”
“Yep. I remember that.” Connor says now slipping into the chair next to me.
I wasn’t expecting it so I am startled having him so close to me.
I nod, trying to act normal. “I don’t remember much.”
“Of course, you don’t. Even on vacation, you had your nose stuck in a book.” Garnet says.
“Well, that's better than getting drunk, running naked through the city, and then sleeping with this guy!” I point at Cole. “No offense.” I mumble.
“WE DIDN’T SLEEP TOGETHER!” Cole says agitated.
“Haha, yes you did.” Leon says, teasing him.
Both Connor and Leon laugh.
“I remember someone got married on that trip too.” A very familiar voice says.
Abigail slides a chair back and sits with us and with her mate, Wolf, next to her.
“What are you doing here!?” Connor shouts.
She smiles. “I decided to start going to this school. It keeps me near the action since you all are trouble magnets.”
“Uh! Whyyy?” Connor whines.
“Oh, this will be fun!” Garnet says.
“Fun? Speak for yourself.” Leon mumbles.
“Oh Leon, are you hungry?” Abigail asks in a baby voice.
“Why would I-” Leon stops when he notices that Abigail is talking to her pet spider and not him.
The spider—which is now on the table— suddenly goes on top of Cole's hand.
Cole —who is sitting next to Abigail— slides back and jumps out of his seat when he sees the spider.
“Keep that thing away from me!” He shouts.
Leon suddenly smiles. “Huh... you don’t like spiders, do you?”
“Who does!” Cole responds.
“Wait!” Garnet says. “Why are we all deviating from the conversation about Connor getting married to a mannequin?”
“UUUHH! Shut up!” Connor covers his face with both his hands. “I was drunk!”
They all start laughing and so do I. Who would have thought that he would do that?
Wolf finally speaks. “Yeah, Connor and by the way, she is feeling lonely. She’s up in our room.”
“What?! You brought it?”
Everyone starts laughing even louder now.
“Oh yea, she wanted to see her husband since you’ve been neglecting her.” Abigail says.
Connor slaps his palms to his face. “This is going to be the worst semester ever!”
“Well, bon voyage my people.” Abigail gets up. “Wolf and I just got here and we need to get settled.”
“Good riddance.” Connor mumbles as Abigail walks away with Wolf.
“Oh, this is definitely going to be fun.” Garnet says but she quickly ducks down when Charlotte walks into the cafeteria. “Crap! Bye!” She says and rushes through the crowd.
Ignoring him, Connor takes a piece of paper out. “Anyway, let's see if we have any classes together this semester.”
We all compare and find that we do have a few classes with each other. I am surprised and excited that I have two classes with Connor though that will result to be a distraction.
“You know, since school starts tomorrow, technically it hasn’t started yet. We should go party tonight to kick start this semester.” Cole says.
“Hell, yeah we should.” Connor says.
“I’m in. What do you think?” Leon asks Tinsley.
“I guess we could.”
Tinsley and Connor look at me but I shake my head. “No. I’m not going. I have something to do.”
“Oh.” Connor says.
I am still hung up on my father and I remember he talked about that book called The Malum Arcanum. I want to research it.
And that’s what I do.
After lunch, I head to the library where I spend the rest of the day there without any luck. There is nothing on this Malum Arcanum.
I put back all the books I took from the shelves and head back to my room. Though I feel a bit down about not finding anything, I have not given up yet.
Once in my room, I open my window and sit on the chair that is right in front of it. My eyes are drawn to the dead plant next to me that just a few days ago was just fine. I touch its dry leaves. No matter how much I water them, they always end up like this... and it is because of me.
I sigh and look up at the night sky. There is a waxing moon today. It makes me feel so calm. It’s strange, ever since I was a child, I have always felt calm when I bathe in its light. I’ve never understood why.
I laugh.
You'd think I was a werewolf too but I know for sure that that is not the case.
After taking a few minutes to relax my mind, I think of my options and something does come to mind. If the Malum Arcana does exist, then I think I have a guess on where there would be a clue to it.
Aurora’s family grimoire.
She and Charlotte's family line is a powerful one and their family book holds powerful knowledge. But how can I get a look at it without letting Aurora know? If she found out, she would tell Ezekiel and Marco and they want me to just let all this be. I can’t do that.
Time to think of something.
Before I can start to brainstorm, a few knocks come on my door.
It is late so I find it strange. I open the door and Connor suddenly falls on me. It takes everything I have to hold this big guy up.
"Connor!"
"Amy... I came to vizit." He says slurping his words.
I pull back and take a look at him. His face is so pink and he smells of alcohol.
"Are you drunk?"
"Naaaaaa. I'm good." He says.
I sigh. "You are drunk."
"Nope." He pops the p.
"Come on, I'll take you to your room."
Trying my best to balance us, we start walking down the hall.
His room is not far from mine and I am grateful at this moment that he is on the same floor and we don't have to go up some stairs.
I can't deny that it makes me happy that he came to see me. That when he was drunk, he thought about me.
"Amy, that manikin meens no'en to me."
"Okay." I say wanting to laugh that he would even say that.
"She iz notin to me." He repeats.
I smile but still hold my laugh. "Okay, Connor."
"There he is!" Tinsley suddenly says from down the hall.
I start walking towards her and Leon. "Hey, he came to my room like this."
Leon takes a deep breath of relief. "We couldn't find him all night. I'll take him from here."
I hand him to him and he supports Connor so much easier than I did which makes sense since Leon is so much stronger and bigger.
"I like Amy more. She's soft. You are not." Connor says.
"That's okay buddy. Let's get you to your room." Leon says.
Connor gives me a big smile. "Bye preeetty lady."
I smile and wave at them. I head back to my room with a smile on my face.
