When I woke up the next morning, Trevor was asleep next to me, I woke up about 10 minutes before my alarm, he had stayed here all night. I had no idea why, but I didn’t mind, I carefully leaned over and gently shook him, trying to wake him, he woke up with a smile,
“Morning Lucy,” he says as he sits up stretching.
“Morning Trevor,” I reply with a smile.
He got up and says, “I’m going to go take a quick shower at home, wait in the car I won’t be long,” he smiles and places his keys in my hand.
I nod at him, “Sounds good,” I smile as he leaves.
He was something else, he was like a breath of fresh air, after all the suffocating t*****e I went through. I got ready, grabbed my stuff, ate a banana, then went to his car. I unlocked it and sat in the passenger seat, and waited for him. I waited 5 minutes before he came out, he looked amazing, jeans, a tight shirt showing his muscles, a zip up hoodie and sneakers. He was holding a navy blue pullover hoodie, in one hand his backpack in the other. He got in the drivers seat and handed me his hoodie,
“Here, this will be warmer than yours,” he says as I take it.
“Thank you,” I say as I pull it on, it smelt like him.
He turned the car on and drove us to school. As he pulled into his spot, everyone was staring again, I rolled my eyes. As I got out I turned to him,
“Thanks Trevor,” I smile at him.
“You’re welcome Lucy,” he replies with a smile.
Then we walk together into school, past my bullies, who glare and spot the same necklace from yesterday on me. They really had no idea I was really rich, they just assumed s**t to get to t*****e me more. They don’t come near me, until after first class, they wait until everyone’s in their next classes, to corner me.
They shove me against the lockers holding me there, “Who got you that necklace?” Landon asks.
I look at him, “My grandma that passed away.”
Landon laughed,“Yeah sure, I bet you’re new man gave you it.”
I looked at him, “We’re just friends.”
He laughed harder, “Yeah okay, then why are you wearing his hoodie and hes giving you rides?”
I looked at him, “That’s actually none of your business Landon, but if you must know, my cars getting fixed, and the hoodie? I don’t know why the f**k do you care so much?”
He glared at me, “Because I asked! You answer! No f*****g sass Lucy!”
I looked at him getting irritated, already late for class. I try to push by, he shoves me into the lockers and they walk off. I sigh and head to class, not feeling good, all the pain was making me nauseous, I decided to turn towards the nurses office instead. I walked in telling them, I felt sick, they had me lay down for a bit. They keep me until lunch, then send me to lunch, I walk in and go grab something to eat. Then I go sit at the table I always do, Trevor was there already, he looked at me, his face had worry on it.
I sat next to him quietly, ate and didn’t really talk. I was shutting down, slowly, my bullies were breaking me, after lunch I head with Trevor quietly to the rest of our classes, then after Drama we went to his car, got in and drove home. I stayed quiet, he could tell something wasn’t right, but he wasn’t completely sure. He left me alone, he parked in his driveway,
“Thank you,” I say before getting out and walking to my house.
“you’re welcome,” Trevor says, getting out and going to his house.
I walked into my house after unlocking it, my brothers were sitting at the table, they could tell I wasn’t okay, they didn’t say anything. I went upstairs and showered then started homework. When I was finished my brother knocked on my door,
“Come in!” I say
My brother David opens the door, “Me and Steve are leaving for a bit, mom and dad are working doubles, we’ll be home later.”
I nod, “Okay see you later.”
David leaves my room shutting the door, behind him. I watch them leave through the window, then sit down thinking, then I decide I’ve thought enough, walk into the bathroom and just harm myself, this time a little worse, I pass out on the bathroom floor in front of the closed door. Next thing I know I’m waking up in an ambulance, a hand holding mine, I turn to see who it is, its Trevor.
He looked down at me, “Lucy......”
I looked up at him groggy, and in pain. I heard an EMTs voice on the other side of me,
“Lucy, you’re okay were on the way to the ER, you’re going to be okay.”
I didn’t say a word, I had nothing to say, I didn’t even know who found me, or how they got in I was against the door. I felt Trevor squeeze my hand, I looked over at him again, his eye’s were filled with anger, sadness, and was that concern as well? Why would he care so much? I didn’t deserve happiness, it would just be ripped away from me, I didn’t realize tears were falling until, I felt Trevor’s hand on my face wiping them away. I looked up at him again, then placed my hand against his, as the ambulance came to a stop.
The EMTs got up opening the door, pulling the stretcher out and wheeling me in, Trevor never left my side, I thought I heard him tell someone he was boyfriend, even though he wasn’t, he must really be worried about me if he’s lying to doctor’s. They patched me up, then admitted me overnight, Trevor stayed by my side, I fell asleep from the meds they gave me for pain. When I woke up in the middle of the night, Trevor was asleep his head near my hand, my brothers were asleep in chairs.
Trevor must have called them, a nurse walked in as I looked around again, she smiled softly at me and came over to me.
“How you feeling Lucy?” she asks softly.
“Groggy,” I replied.
She smiled, “That’s normal, how’s your pain?”
“about a 5-6,” I replied back
She nodded and pressed my medicine button once.
“Rest, you go home tomorrow,” she replied.
I nodded, “Okay,” I smiled softly.
The nurse changes my bandages, I place my hand on Trevor’s before falling back to sleep. The next time I wake up its around 8am, everyone’s awake, they all stop talking the moment Trevor notices me awake,
“Hey, Lucy you’re okay, you made it.” He smiled warmly.
David and Steve smile and sit on the edge of my bed,
“Hey, were going home.” David said.
“You’re staying home for a few days, I’m staying with you.” Steve says, “Trevor’s going to come over after school with all your work, he’s going to help you stay caught up until you go back on Friday,” he looks at me.
I nod at them, “Okay,” I knew my brother’s were going to give me hell when we got home.
They were always asking if I was okay and I lied every single time. They probably think they could help me, but these bullies were my problem, and underage. I had to do this myself so they’d respect me, I also had to tell them at some point, that I was rich like them. Unsure if that would matter to them, they would probably think I was lying.
My brother hit the nurse call button, like he was asked when I was awake. The nurse came in smiling,
“Morning Lucy, you ready to go home?” she askes
I nod, “Yes please,” I say.
“You’re going to make an appointment with a therapist and start seeing them tomorrow , you’re brother’s already consented, it’s the only way you’re allowed to go home, after what you did.”
Cont
I nodded, “I understand,” I say to her.
She smiles, “Doc will be right in with your discharge papers to get you home.”
She leaves, the doctor comes in a few minutes later, going through my papers with me. What I had to do, what I should do, to take it easy for a few days. I nodded and signed my name, my brother also signed his since he was taking care of me. Trevor helped me get ready, not looking as I changed. He was such a gentlemen, I would need to do something for him, once I was feeling better.
Once I was ready to go, the doctor walked us out. Trevor never left my side, for whatever reason. Something felt different, we got in David’s truck, Trevor sat next to me, putting an arm around me. I just looked at him quietly, he smiled softly, my brother started the truck and we headed home. When we got home, we all got out my brothers let Trevor come in, asked him to stay for the day, he agreed.
When we got inside, me and Trevor went to my room so I could lay down. David left for work, Steve made some lunch for us. He brought it up to us when it was done. I knew I had a lot to explain, but I was scared, I was lucky they didn’t put me in the psych ward. I wasn’t crazy, I just had had enough of them and went to far. I stayed quiet while we ate, once we finished, I was finally ready to tell Trevor what happened. I told him everything, from the start, to hurting myself, to what led to the last incident. Trevor was mostly quiet, but I could see so many emotions in his eyes. It hurt me to see how he felt, he cared, I still had to tell my brothers but I was afraid to, they always said to let them know if I was being bullied, I didn’t I dealt with it my way instead.
Once I was done talking, Trevor pulled me onto his lap and hugged me tight. I hugged him back and cried, he rubbed my back and whispered in my ear softly
“Shh its okay, I’ll make sure they never touch you again Lucy.”
That made me cry more, I wasn’t used to someone saying that. I also had no idea how close to my brothers Trevor is. Maybe they sent him to check on me, when I didn’t answer any phone. I had to go to therapy daily, also I had to go to the guidance counselor everyday after 2nd period for a half hour, then I’d go to 3rd and continue my day. Until they felt I was okay again, not a danger to myself, I quite possibly could have a normal high school life.
