Chapter 6

-Derek P.O.V.- I start to shake as I re-read the text message from that piece of s**t. How dare he. I close my eyes over as I grip her phone tightly within my hand as I try to calm myself down. I do not want to scare her since she has been through enough tonight and my anger can be pretty scary. I am thrown out of my anger as I feel her hand squeeze my wrist. I open my eyes to look at her and instead of seeing fear in her eyes, I see concern. “Are you okay?” She softly asks me. “Yes, I am just not happy with how he threatened you. I do not deal well if some guy treats a woman like this.” I tell her while I need to avoid telling her about who I truly am. She smiles softly before she takes her phone out of my hand and then sits back in her chair. “I know you don’t really know me, but you can come and stay with me. I will keep you safe and if it will make you feel better then my sister can come over to stay or a friend or whatever. My mother would ream me a new one if I also didn’t help you.” I tell her the last part chuckling. She chuckles too before she looks at me seriously. “I don’t know why but I feel safe around you which is weird for me. And honestly, I have no where to go and I cannot put my friend at risk, so I stay with you.” She tells me which makes me smile.   I am so glad/happy that she feels safe around me since it seems like men have only treated her poorly. “I will call my sister and she will stay with me just so you know that I mean no ill will.” She nods at me as she smiles at me. “Thank you. Now I need to get back to work, but I get off in about two hours.” “Okay, I will be in my moms’ room.” I tell her as I go to walk back over to my mom’s room.   I’ll call my sister once I get in my moms’ room since my mom will want to know what is going in and she will not allow me to speak on the phone. I walk into my mom’s hospital room and I see that she is still up and speaking with my father. They feel me enter and look over to me. My mom has the face of “you better tell me what happened” while my father had the face of “it better be good”. I go to sit down and then I face my parents. “He ended up texting her and made it clear that she wasn’t safe. I memorized the phone number that the piece of sh*t texted from and I will find out about him. Now she will be coming to stay with me, but I will make sure that Mara is there, so she feels safe.” My father nods at me as if telling me ‘good answer’. “Good. Keep her safe and before you try to make any moves then you need to make sure that she knows who you are and what you do.” My mother warns me, and I nod to her. I pull out my phone to call my sister. Mara: Hey bro, what’s up? Me: At the hospital with mom but listen. I need you to come over to my house and stay. Mara: Okay. I will be waiting for you. Me: Thanks sis. I then hang up and turn my attention back to my parents. My brothers and sister don’t ask any questions when it comes to us needing something. We know it is for a cause and we also know that we will be told what that reason is once we see each other. We are always there for each other which is something my parents instilled in us. After some time, Macy comes in my mom’s hospital room and tells me she is ready to go. We head out and I walk her to her call when I get a call from one of my men. I answer it just as we are sitting in the car. One of my men: Alright boss, we worked with Scar and we found out some more information. Me: Someone from the job? Him: Yeah, some guy threatened the HR people to change some files around for him. I mean he was threatening their family and knew things that only we would be able to find out. Me: Really? That is interesting. Him: Yeah, we are finding more and more out from the HR people and from the files that were deleted. We will know more tomorrow. Me: Is Scar working alongside you guys? Him: Si. Me: Alright, I will call you tomorrow. Text me updates and when I get to my office, I will call you again. Him: Si boss. I then hung up and looked over to see Macy just looking at me. “I am sorry about that. It was work.” I tell her to which she nods. I turn the car on and start to pull out the parking spot so I can head to my house. A few minutes into the car ride, she asks the question that I was dreading. “What is it that you do for work?” F**K! “I am currently working on a case that deals with my mother. I am trying to find out who shot her.” I tell her calmly. “So, you are like a cop?” She asks me innocently. I chuckle a bit at her question. “Not exactly. Truth be told if I told you what I did you wouldn’t believe me.” I tell her while chuckling. “Okay, you will tell me when you want to.” She simply says and I am thankful for that. Soon we are arriving at my house and I am pulling into my driveway. I look over to see her gawking at the outside of my house. I smirk at her reaction. I see my sister’s car in the driveway as well as my living room light on. I park and we head out of my car and over to my front door. As soon as we enter, I am attacked by my sister. She jumps into my arms as I catch her while laughing. “I missed you!” She squeals at me. She will always be my baby sister. I chuckle. “I missed you too.” I tell her as I sit her down. She looks over to see Macy and she pulls her into a hug. Yep, that is my sister. “Hi, I am Mara. Derek’s baby sister/only sister.” Mara exclaims as she pulls away from Macy. I look to see Macy calm down from looking tense earlier and she smiles at Mara. “I am Macy. It is nice to meet you.” “Nice to meet you too. Now what did you need from me, bro.” “I needed you here so Macy can feel comfortable since she had a tough night. I need you to keep her company while I am in my office dealing with work.” Mara nods while she grabs Macy hand and takes her away from me.
