Chapter Nine ‘What is happening? Have they reached the target yet?’ asked Adaeze. Jaxon was sitting with the rest of the senior council in the throne room, bearing as patiently as he could with his queen’s repeated questions. Adaeze liked to have daily—hourly—updates on the progress of the troops, although he had explained to her more than once that they would hear little of value until the raid had taken place. It made no difference. Adaeze had, perhaps, a short attention span. ‘There has been no further rain, but the going is still rather heavy,’ Hokulani told her, as he had the previous three days. ‘This is all the feed I can show you.’ They all looked at the mottled picture on the screen at the far end of the room.
