Daniel
I woke up a bit light headed. I took a hot shower and dragged myself to the kitchen and requested black coffee for my headache. Today I plan on going to look for my mate. I don’t even know where she stays but I will not sit back and not try. I hope Tony knows and he will assist me. The kitchen omega brought me breakfast just as I settled by the dining table with my coffee in my hand. I woke up late, today is lazy Sunday, I didn’t have training. This is the day I do most of the pack work that involves signing and checking accounts. Mostly Herman does everything especially when my job as an engineer takes all of my time, but he leaves signing and balancing of accounts for me. It’s a good thing that I did some accounting degree along with my masters degree in engineering.
Just as I was about digging in, Herman came in. “Good morning Dan!” he said as we fist bumped and he asked why I didn’t come for breakfast on time. “Man, I was exhausted. I have a bone to chew with this boy Tony. I wonder what they put in their fruit punch, despite that I told him no alcohol!” I growled and just as I was speaking he entered. “Speak of the devil!” Herm said and I looked up! “Hey cousin! Hi Beta!” he greeted. “That’s Alpha for you boy!” I grunted loudly. He was startled. “Well, hello angry Alpha! Geez! It’s not my fault you lost your mate!” he said sarcastically. I wanted to stand up and punch his little face. Max was pissed off, he growled dangerously and the little boy cowered. He bowed a bit, went to open the fridge and took out an apple, washed it and hastily left. I was glaring at him that whole time. I ignored Herm’s piercing fiery eyes and ate my breakfast. He didn’t say a word until I was done. He knew better than to talk about anything when I’m angry, especially about what made me angry in the first place.
“Care to elaborate on “lose your mate” he mentioned? The one that made you so furious? ‘Coz as far as I know you haven’t met your mate yet?” He said with a straight face. I wanted to get angry at him but I held back. It wasn’t his fault. I had planned to only tell him after I saw her again. I sighed, “I met her last night!” I said my head down. “Wow! Congrats man! Is she gorgeous?” he asked grinning. I smiled. “The most drop dead gorgeous woman I’ve ever laid my eyes on.” I said. “So why did Tony say you lost her? What happened?” he prodded. My anger returned. I blamed Max for what happened and he also blamed me. My eyes turned dark as Max took over. ‘You keep blaming me but you weren’t proactive. Had you marked our mate when we mated, we wouldn’t have lost her.’ He said. ‘That’s what you think you dimwit. Had you gone ahead and did that stupid thing of marking her, she would have hated us or gotten scared and we would lose her forever, she is human for goddess’ sake, she doesn’t even know we exist!’ I growled at Max, banging my fist on the table and it broke in half. Herm scampered to his feet not knowing what had gotten into his Alpha. “Alpha, calm down please!” he pleaded, touching my hands hesitatingly and moved me away from the broken table. The omegas in the kitchen whimpered in fear. That brought me back to my senses as Max retreated to the back of my mind scoffing. “Let’s talk in my office!” I bellowed already going out of the dining hall. He followed me to my office and closed the door behind him. I sat on my chair, running fingers through my hair. “I am assuming you did something regrettable, that’s why you and Max are fighting?” he said calmly with a raised eyebrow. Herman and I have been best friends from birth, we played together and did mischievous things together, he is my buddy, along with my Gamma Biggie Casper and Delta Donnie McKenzie. There was silence between us for a minute before I cleared my throat to speak. His eyes were fixed on me and it made me nervous. I chew on my lower lip, the thing I hate but do absent mindedly. “Man, I think I f****d up big time. I met her at the party I took Tony to last night. She is human!” I said nervously and paused to see his reaction to that last piece. “Yes, so? I hope you didn’t reject her because she is human man?” he said looking disappointed. We are not that much archaic when it comes to mates. Of course we desire to have wolves as mates, especially for the Alphas, so that they can help in protecting our people but we are not much keen about it. We believe a mate is a mate and they make one stronger regardless. “Noo! You know I’m not into that bulls**t like some of our members here. I would never reject a mate who I’ve been waiting for for six years now.” I said firmly. He sighed.
For us in this part of North America, we get to have our mates as soon as we gain our wolves at 16, but of course we don’t mate with them until we are 18. For me, I’ve had to wait for eight years to be precise. “What did you do then? ” Herm said throwing off his arms, getting frustrated. “We mated with her. It was this demented overgrown puppy Max who took control and did that, inside a car for that matter, and even wanted to mark her had I not fought back and took control.” I said very much ashamed. Max growled at me but I shut him off. “What? Are you kidding me? You didn’t r**e her, right?” Herm jumped from his seat and looked at me like I had stooped so low. Like I was disgusting. “No! Come on! I wouldn’t do that. She consented though she may have been a bit intoxicated from the fruit punch I talked about earlier.” I said, really feeling the gravity of letting my libido make decisions for me, a whole Alpha and owner of the most successful business in the city. This would be shameful news if they got out there. “Man why would you lose control like that? Dan, it’s time you took control over Max or else he will put you in trouble one of these days.” He was right. I’ve always given Max control because I wanted his ruthlessness to somehow make me feel powerful as the high Alpha in my region, but it’s time he knew we are one, we both have to come into agreement and he shouldn’t always have his way. “You are right. It’s all my fault. You can scold me man but I already feel like s**t, that’s why I snapped back in the kitchen. Now I have a task of replacing the table before lunch.” I said scratching my sculp. “Don’t worry about that. I’ve already linked Donnie to take care of it.” Herm said. He is always that effective, that’s why I can’t snap at him. He knows me better than the others. “Thanks man, you are a lifesaver.” I said to him.
There was a momentary silence between us. “The worst part is, after the deed, she asked for water. I left to go get her some but I came back to an empty car. She disappeared without a trace. What if I broke her. She was a virgin you know. She is 18. I know nothing more about her. I only know her first name, Anabella, I don’t know where in the middle of that big city she stays. If Tony has no idea about it, I’m gonna have to be at her school first thing Monday morning. I need to apologize to her.” I rumbled on. Herm just looked at me without a word. “I hope that you succeed man. I’m here if you need any help.” He said. “Thanks man, I’ll need to take Tony and go in search of her now, can you hold off a bit about signing those documents I have to sign?” I asked. He nodded, “not a problem man I’ll do the rest. Go find my Luna.” He said and that elicited a smile in me.
I found Tony in the movie room and dragged him to my car pinching hard on his skin. “Ouch! What did I do now? You are bullying me, I’ll tell aunt.” He cried out. “Shut up and get inside the car, that was for spiking the drinks last night despite having said I don’t want any alcohol.” I growled. “What? That wasn’t my fault. I didn’t know too.” He retorted. “Shut up! How come you weren’t tipsy?” I said and he averted his eyes. I knew he must have been part of whoever decided to play that prank. “Punk! Do that again then I’ll never escort you anywhere ever!” I growled at him. “Where are you taking me?” I ignored him and drove off until we reached the city. I parked at the mall and faced him. He was a bit nervous, and so was I. “Where does she stay?” I asked. “Who?” he responded. I glared at him. “You mean Bella? I don’t know, she never mentioned it to me but it’s one of the rich suburbs” he exclaimed. “You do have friends who are close to her right?” he nodded. “Call them and ask, I have some work back at the pack house.” He took out his phone and started dialing. After what seemed like 24 hours, he sighed, frustrated. “None of them know.”
I felt so disappointed. There was no way I would traverse the streets of Edmonton looking for one tiny person. I dejectedly sighed and drove back to the pack house after driving aimlessly for a few hours without point of direction. I made it my number one priority to be at Tony’s school first thing Monday morning without fail. I went straight to the office to find piles of documents on top of my desk. I needed to finish dealing with them today, so I buried myself and my frustration into work I did not even bother going for lunch. An hour after lunch, my office phone rang. I wonder who would be calling me here when I had my cellphone with me. I picked the receiver. “Hello!” I said. “Hello Mr. Hector! This is Markus, I tried your phone but it’s off.” He said. I removed it from my pocket to see it truly was off. “I’m sorry to bother you on weekend but there is an emergency trip that needs your presence ASAP.” He added. “What? Can’t you handle that Markus? You are the managing director.” I said frustrated. “I would have if I could sir, but this one needs the CEO himself. Otherwise we will lose the multi billion dollar contract you signed a fortnight ago.” He mentioned. ‘What? That one? No ways, that’s a project I can’t afford to lose. But it’s in France.’ I thought. “When should I attend to it?” I asked wearily. “You have to board the plane today this evening sir so that you can attend to it tomorrow morning.” He said! ‘Oh no! I have to see Bell at her school tomorrow. What kind of a stumbling block is this now?’ I mused over it. I sighed. “Okay, I’ll drive to the office in an hour. Have all the necessary documents ready and arrange the shuttle to take me to airport. Also inform Larry the pilot to get the jet ready by 6pm. See you at the office.” I instructed and cut the call. What a delay! I linked Herm to come to my office, I gave him all the papers I was done with and let him know about everything. He could see how disappointed I was. “Don’t worry, you will be back soon and you will go get her!” he encouraged. “Thanks man! Please let this remain between us, don’t let anyone know I found my mate before I actually found her. Not even my mother. I had Tony swear on keeping the secret too.” I told him. “Don’t worry man, you can count on me!” he responded.
