Part 1: Awakening - Chapter 1 - Hidden Heritage
Seraphina P.O.V In a world where mythical creatures roam and ancient prophecies shape destinies, my life was about to take a dramatic turn. I'm Seraphina Jessica Maginis, a human I believed for the first seventeen years of my life. I always felt like there was something more based on dreams I had which I normally brushed them off as dreams and nothing more. But now they come almost every night a rebate of darkness and fire and flying. But nothing sticks when I wake up. It wasn't until the eve of my birthday I learned I was a half-dragon, half-witch hybrid, raised in ignorance of my true nature by parents who sought to keep me safe. Growing up alongside my best friend Tiara McCloud, I navigated the usual teenage worries, oblivious to the extraordinary heritage coursing through my veins. In the depths of our quaint suburban home, my parents, Vierna and Drake, cast a spellbinding aura that mesmerized all who crossed their path. Vierna, a vision of ethereal beauty with eyes ablaze like emerald flames, held within her the power to shape reality itself with a mere flick of her wrist. Beside her stood Drake, a towering figure cloaked in scales as iridescent as moonlight, each step resonating with the ancient authority of a dragon lord. With a single breath, he could command fire and wind to dance to his will. As I watched them move with an otherworldly grace, I couldn't help but marvel at the enigma they embodied. They had chosen to carve out a life for themselves away from the magical realms that now loomed on the horizon, threatening to shatter the fragile tranquility of our world. "Our world," my father would often say, his voice rumbling like distant thunder. "Iterra Bright, the Earth of Hope." But hope was a fragile thing, and Iterra Bright was no longer the sanctuary it once was. Dark forces lurked in the shadows, their malevolent whispers seeping into the very fabric of our existence. The delicate balance between magic and humanity teetered on the edge of collapse, and my parents knew that the time for secrecy was drawing to a close. "We must prepare," Vierna said, her gaze piercing through the veil of uncertainty that hung heavy in the air. "The storm approaches, and we cannot afford to be caught unawares." With those words, the weight of responsibility settled upon my shoulders like a cloak of shadows. The idyllic facade of our suburban life faded into the background, replaced by the harsh reality of the world we inhabited—a world on the brink of chaos, where the line between friend and foe blurred into obscurity. "We should wait for her birthday before we do anything," Drake replied as he stared into my deep hazel eyes. I felt like this has happened many times in the past. My mom nodded. I heard strange Latin words as my mind went blank, and my eyes closed. Moments later I was back at The School of Hope High School, with a blank expression on my face until I saw Joel Riker, with his chiseled jawline and eyes that sparkled like molten gold, was the epitome of teenage heartthrob. I'd nursed a secret crush on him for as long as I could remember, but to him, I was just one of the guys. The sister figure. "Hey, Jess," Joel called out using parts of my middle name, slinging an arm around my shoulder as we walked down the crowded hallway of our high school. "You ready for tomorrow?" My heart skipped a beat at the sound of his voice, but I kept my composure, flashing him a bright smile. "As ready as I'll ever be," I replied, hoping he didn't notice the way my pulse quickened under his touch. Graduation was just around the corner, and with it, the end of an era. Tomorrow marked the beginning of a new chapter, one I hoped would bring about a change in Joel's perception of me. As Tiara and I scoured the mall for the perfect outfits to celebrate both graduation and my upcoming eighteenth birthday, I couldn't shake the butterflies fluttering in my stomach. "So, any plans for the big day?" Tiara asked, her eyes twinkling with excitement as she held up a dazzling dress for my inspection. I grinned, the anticipation bubbling inside me. "Just a small gathering at my place," I replied, trying to sound nonchalant. "But who knows? Maybe this year, something unexpected will happen." Little did I know, as I busied myself with plans for my birthday bash, the universe had other, far more extraordinary plans in store for Earth of Hope, the last bastion of humanity in a world teetering on the brink of magic and mayhem. The air in the auditorium crackled with anticipation as we stepped into the sea of swirling gowns and polished shoes. Tiara and I glided through the crowd, our mermaid dresses shimmering like ocean waves under the soft glow of the chandeliers. Heads turned in our wake, whispers fluttering like startled birds as we made our grand entrance. "Wow, Jess, you look amazing," Tiara exclaimed, her eyes wide with admiration as she took in the spectacle around us. I grinned, feeling a surge of confidence wash over me like a tidal wave. Today was the day, the culmination of years of friendship and unspoken yearning. Today, Joel would finally see me for who I truly was. As I scanned the room, searching for his familiar figure amidst the sea of faces, my heart skipped a beat. There he was, standing tall and handsome, his eyes locked on mine with an intensity that sent shivers down my spine. Could this be it? Could this be the moment I'd been waiting for? "Hey, Jess," Joel called out, weaving his way through the crowd with the grace of a predator on the hunt. "You look... incredible." His words hung in the air like a promise, igniting a flicker of hope within me. Maybe, just maybe, today would be the day he finally saw me as more than just a friend. But as I reached out to touch his arm, a sudden commotion erupted at the back of the auditorium, sending shockwaves rippling through the crowd. Gasps echoed off the walls as whispers of panic spread like wildfire. "What's happening?" Tiara asked, her voice tinged with concern as she clung to my arm. I shook my head, my heart pounding in my chest as I strained to see through the throng of bodies. Something was wrong, terribly wrong, and I feared that whatever it was would shatter the fragile illusion of this perfect day. Pushing through the sea of bewildered faces, I followed the wave of commotion toward the back of the auditorium. My pulse quickened with each step, dread coiling in the pit of my stomach like a slumbering serpent awakened by chaos. As I reached the epicenter of the disturbance, my worst fears were realized. A group of shadowy figures had materialized at the entrance, their cloaks billowing like smoke in the dim light. Their presence cast a pall of unease over the room, freezing the air with an icy chill that seeped into my bones. "What's going on?" I whispered, my voice barely audible over the rising tide of panic. But before anyone could respond, the leader of the group stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with malice beneath the hood of his cloak. He raised a hand, and with a flick of his wrist, a shimmering barrier materialized, sealing off the exit with an ominous finality.
