Chapter 7 The Capital was a spectacle Jacob couldn’t have imagined, even with his creative abilities. Apart from the strange pale light, almost a dark light, emanating from the buildings, there were the buildings themselves. Great spears of glass-like metal that pierced the clouds which hung in a vast grey blanket over the city. Jacob could see light coming from open doors, but nothing through the pale grey, glassy windows. And once they were in the city proper there was no trace of the natural world, despite the fact it grew right up to the very edge of the city. The Capital was a thing of great beauty, although Jacob wondered how anyone could live surrounded by all this gleaming grey and not get depressed.
