William knew it would come to this. He knew Adrian wasn't going to give in so easily. He was ready to defy all morals to make his son bend to his will.
"You will marry Jeanne!"
"I will not. I can never love her."
"Why?" William asked.

"I don't want her in my life," Adrian simply said.
"But you two were in love. You told me many years ago that you loved her," his mother said.
Adrian turned his attention to his mother and shook his head.
"That was a long time ago. She…" he trailed off. "Jeanne and I are over, never to be again."
"This merger must happen. Why don't you understand?" his father continued.
