The Knight and The Incomposed

Sharon looked at Bob in disbelief, trying to figure out the justification for his anger. "Why are you yelling my name?" she asked. "What are you doing here with another man?!" Bob yelled even louder. Another man? Oh right. She shifted her gaze to the gorgeousness in front of her. "You have no right to ask me that. You left me. We are divorced." she said still trying to keep her calm. "Divorced? We are not divorced. You are still my wife!" Bob said and grabbed her wrist. "Don't touch me! Get your hands off me," she said pulling away. It was time for action. Adrian stood up and pushed Bob away from her. He moved in between them with Sharon at his back. He did a quick mental deduction. This angry man was obviously the deluded ex-husband. And from the way the two women exchanged glances, they knew each other. Adrian in his six feet three inches glory stared down the five feet eight inches Bob, intimidating him with his looks and body language. Bob had never been more intimidated. How could Sharon have landed a hunk of a man like the man standing before him. She was a shy beautiful girl he quickly married before she realised her worth. He admitted to himself then and there that he had treated her worse than any man should his wife. He had always felt insecure being with her because he knew she deserved better than him. But now, he had never wanted her more, seeing her true beauty and being with another man. He didn't even know the man she was with was that good looking and tall because he only saw him from behind. "I think you should leave," Adrian said "I'm not leaving without my wife," Bob said standing his ground. "Stop calling me your wife! You abandoned me while I was pregnant. I have not seen you in three years!" she yelled behind Adrian. Adrian turned back to look at her. He could see so much pain in her eyes. She was quivering and her lips were trembling. Her eyes were laced with tears and it would be too bad if she cried in front of her useless ex. "Don't cry," he whispered to her. "Don't give him the satisfaction." She nodded at Adrian as she took a deep breath to comport herself. She moved forward and stood beside Adrian to confront Bob. Adrian stood by her side, arms crossed like a defender, a protector. A white knight, that's the word. He stood there like she was his queen and he was her white knight. "I divorced you in absentia for spousal and child abandonment." she told him mater of factly. Bob's face fell like someone died. "You can't do that," Bob muttered as he took step back weak in defeat. " You had the baby?" "I had the baby." "I thought you would miscarry like always." "Well, I didn't." Bob cursed under his breath and put his face in his hands. "What did you think was going to happen?" she said narrowing her eyes. "Did you think I was going to wait for your sorry arse?!" she said with her confidence rising because of Adrian. Bod raised his head and stared at her in disbelief. She had never spoken to him that way before. He opened his mouth but he couldn't form words. "You should leave with your...." Adrian said pointing to Nicole who looked flustered as attention was now on her. "Hello Nicole," Sharon said as scornfully as she could muster. Nicole couldn't respond. Because she knew what she did. "This isn't over," Bob said as he walked away. "You can have him, Nicole. You deserve each other," Sharon said after them as Nicole ran after an angry Bob. Sharon turned away from prying eyes who had been watching all along crossing her hands across her chest. She broke down in tears and her legs gave way. She was about to fall when Adrian caught her. "I need to get out of here," she managed to say despite her rapidly beating heart. "I've got you," he said holding on to her delicate frame. He reached for her purse and jacket and quickly ushered her out of there. "I haven't paid for my meal," she informed him. "Don't worry about it. I'll handle it." he said nodding to the manager of the restaurant. The manager nodded back as they left the scene. "I can't drive," she said shivering in his arms, trying so hard to stop crying. He was still holding her as they walked towards the car park. Seeing Bob again brought back many horrible memories. Her body was flooded with feelings of the regret of marrying him, the stupid lies she believed about Nicole. He never loved her but she stayed because she wanted to have a family of her own. Bob treated her like trash and she allowed him by tolerating him. "I have a suite here," he said. He saw an opportunity and he took it. He wasn't ashamed to take it. Opportunities were the reason he had gotten that far in life.
