The party was in full swing, with lights flashing or music blaring. The house was packed with people, from our school and people I didn't know. "Amelia, you came!" I heard and turned to see one of the senior girls, then they looked at me. "Camila, surprise to see you here, but welcome!" "Thanks great party!" I said, looking around. "Thanks, have fun you two!" she walked away and welcomed the others. "See, I told you, you never know how people really feel until you see for yourself!" I looked around and saw Sophia and Josh but I turned away, trying to focus on things around me. Amelia took us to the snack table, where she handed me a drink. It wasn't long before a guy came up to us and invited Amelia to dance. "Be cool, don't over think it!" she said and walked away with the guy. I was looking around for a bit, when I bumped into someone. "I'm sorry...." "What are you doing here?" I looked up at Josh's serious face. "I was invited!" I said sharply trying to walk past him, but he grabbed my arm pulling me close to him. "Leave!" he snarled in my ear. I pushed him away and slapped his hand off my arm. We glared at each other. "You're not the boss of me, so go back to your girlfriend and leave me alone!" I snarled back and pushed past him. I soon found myself in the middle of the dance floor. When Amelia invited me to dance, I accepted and let myself get lost in the music. My body danced to the beat and just lost itself. After a while, I felt dizzy and lightheaded. "I'm going to the bathroom!" I said to Amelia. She nodded and I went looking for it. I asked the girl from before and she pointed me up stairs. Slowly, I made my way up and got turned around. "Where the heck is the bathroom?" I said to myself, and I looked through the rooms. I had just found the bathroom, when I felt someone grab me from behind and pull me into another room. I went into fight mode, but it wasn't much of a fight. He flipped me onto the bed. I was dazed for a moment. Then Josh's face appeared in front of mine, the little light in the room just barely outlining his features. "What the hell are you doing?" I said, trying to get up, but he held me down. "Let me go!" I said firmly, pushing him. He didn't say anything, just grabbed both my arms and pinned them over my head, while resting the rest of his body on me. I was suddenly very aware of his scent and the muscles of his body. Had he really always been this....handsome? Our faces were inches from each other, my heart was hammering in my chest. What was he doing? He suddenly put his mouth over mine, and I felt like a bomb went off inside of my body. He kissed me as his hand wondered my body slowly. I felt myself warming up as his lips moved down to my neck. "Mine." I heard him say as he pulled the tender skin with his lips, then a little sharper with his teeth. I gasped softly as the mix of sensations ran throughout my body. The hot sensations were interrupted by a sudden burst of pain. My head felt like it was going to split in two, as screams echoed and I felt like I was being torn into by fangs and claws. The whole room was spinning and I couldn't catch my breath. "Mila!?" I heard as Josh hugged me tightly, as I shook with the pain. It slowly ebbed away and the room slowly came into focus again. I was still shaking, but I pulled away from his arms and clumsily rushed out of the room. When I got downstairs, I could hear screams ringing through the room. No one else seemed to hear them. I found Amelia. "Camila, what's wrong?" she asked, looking worried when she saw me. "Mom... something is wrong with my mom!" I finally choked out and we both headed outside. We got into the car and started to drive away. As we drove for a while, I suddenly caught sight of...someone standing on the side of the road. "Stop!" I shouted. Amelia braked hard, and pulled over to the side of the road. I quickly got out, not taking my eyes off what I was seeing. "Camila, what is it?" Amelia asked as she got out of the car. I looked at my mom, as she looked at me with a expressionless face. She suddenly turned without a word and I followed. It wasn't a long ways in. The forest was heavy from the cold and darkness. Not once did it cross my mind. How was my mom right in the middle of the forest, what had happened earlier, and why was I feeling a pit where my stomach was. It wasn't until the silence was too much that I stopped Mom and she turned to look at me. "Mila." her voice was echoing and fadded. That's when I felt it. Sadness, regret, and just an over-whelming feeling of being sorry. "Mom?" I said, my voice breaking as everything wanted to click, but I wasn't letting it. Tears spilled from my eyes as she looked to one side. "Camila?" I heard Amelia behind me, but I couldn't look away from Mom. I shook my head, completely in denial. "No....I'm so sorry, I didn't....I'm sorry I lied to you!" I said, now shouting and begging that this wasn't happening. "It's okay baby, I love you." her voice was calm and sorrowful. She put a cold hand on my cheek and a final kiss on my forehead. "Mom!" I shouted and reached for her, but she was gone. I looked to the side she had looked at and my heart shattered. I fell to the ground in screams and tears. My mom's body laid lifeless among some bushes. After we called the police, Amelia took me back to the house and we all just sat there, where soon the police came and asked questions. I told them the truth up to the point where I followed her spirit to her body. At first, the officer poked fun a little. Until I suddenly started pointing out that he was single and had a dog he rescued from a shelter, because he couldn't deal with his fiancee calling off their engagement. The officers just stared at me but took mine and Amelia's statements and left. "I can't believe this happened!" my aunt said. She looked very stressed. "What are we going to do now?" asked Amelia, looking at me, but waiting to hear what her mother was going to say. "I'm not sure, but Camila can't stay here, even if I don't see like Martha did, something tells me we need to leave!" "What about Camila?" Amelia asked, still looking at me. My aunt looked at me, but I was so out of it. "Camila, you'll come with us, we'll help you with your gift. But we need to leave this town." "Not right now, just give me some time to get my stuff and...and.." I broke down in tears again, "Okay, but no more then a day." I agreed and got up and headed up to my room. I didn't sleep. I just cried the rest of the night. The next morning, the school was all a buzz about what happened and I was getting looks. As I walked to the office, I talked to the principal and the school counselor got my school records and my transcripts. They wished me the best of luck, and I left the office. As I walked up to my locker to get my things, kids stared and murmered around me. I finished getting my stuff when I heard Sophia talking. "Did you hear though she led them to the body, I knew she was a freak but that just proves it!" "Sophia, come on leave her alone, nobody deserves to lose their Mom like that!" said one of the girls. "Besides, who knows what witchcraft she and her mother were into? Maybe things just caught up to her...." "Sophia!" the same girl called when I suddenly grabbed Sophia and slammed her into the lockers. "Talk about my mother now, b***h!" "Camila, let her go..." "Talk s**t now, you stupid piece of s**t!" I yelled at her, but she looked scared out of her mind. "Camila, let go, she's just stupid!" one girl said, pulling my arms, making me let Sophia go. Sophia glared at me and I glared right back. I grabbed my bag and walked away. I looked around and realized that Josh's truck wasn't there. I felt stupid. What had I really expected? I don't know what he wanted from me last night, but now I am glad that I didn't go any further. I went to my car and put my stuff in. After that, I got in and headed back home, not looking back on my bad memories. I walked around the house for a while, the spirit not making itself know just yet. I took a sit in a chair. Waiting, until I felt the coldness next to me. "Who the hell are you?" asked the woman, glaring at me and looking spooky. "I'm here to help you find peace. Why are you still here?" I asked her, looking around the house. "That bastard will never be at peace, they both planned this out, they both killed me!" the spirit yelled, making the house shake. "You died of a heart attack, I know you found them in bed together." I said, seeing how she died in my mind. "My best friend and my husband, those two pieces of ...." "So that's how you'll waste your afterlife, being bitter and haunting them?" I asked, now getting to my feet. "I'm just paying back what needs to be paid back." said the woman. "Karma is already doing that for you, she can't have kids, and she's cheating on your ex but he's in denial." The woman looked surprised but pleased. She too got to her feet and walked over to me. "Then my work here is done," she said with a smile. I put a hand on her cheek. "Be at peace." I said and she faded with a little glow and was gone. As I walked out of the house, the couple drove up. They both looked at me expectingly. "It's done, but it's very heartless what you two did. Hope karma deals you a better one." I said, looking at both of them. The woman rolled her eyes and the man looked a little guilty. I walked past them and headed to my Tahoe. Thirteen years after I left North Dakota, Amelia and my great aunt trained me to be able to use my powers. Not only could I see the dead, but now I could see their past lives, how they died, and I could tell a living person's future, past and present lives. At first I kept hiding it and pretending that I didn't have such a gift, but it happened and I found myself using it more and more. The only little tiff was that I couldn't see my own future, not directly. I could only see small snippets of what someone would do when it involves me. So if a man was going to come up and ask me out or if a car was going to hit me or just things like that. I was a big hit with investigative cases, some cold cases and things like that. My day job was in my aunt's bakery. She brought me to live with her and my aunt Amelia. They helped me through all the pain I had been feeling. From my mother's death to ....being backstabbed by my "best friend". I would be lying if I said that thought didn't cross my mind from time to time, but I would always push it away. There was no way I'd be seeing him again, so I let the feelings I had felt that night slowly die.
