It took a few seconds for Caitlyn to respond to Evans' remark. But eventually, she laughed. Evans was surprised that Caitlyn even laughed at him.
"Do you think this is funny?" Evan was exasperated.
"It's even funnier than a comedy show," Caitlyn responded. "Joseph is my best friend. Ever since I started working at the public library, he's the only one who's been nice to me. And we were never romantically involved at all. Joseph always listened to my stories about David. He even had a few girlfriends. It's impossible for Joseph to like me."
Evans sighed at Caitlyn's insensitivity. As a man, Evans could very well read Joseph's movements.
