Her heart tightened. Shawn was right. This man was a beast and she could not afford to offend him.
"David, let's go."
Lennon peeled himself away from her and ordered the chauffeur in a steely voice.
"Wait a minute, I'm hungry. I want to eat something before we leave," she said quickly.
"Someone will prepare dinner for you when we get back to the hotel."
She pointed to a small restaurant just outside the window. "I want to eat here. Her dumplings are very delicious."
Lennon's cold eyes fell upon her face.
Her expression softened a little, she gave him a small smiled and said, "I haven't eaten anything since last night. I'm really starving."
"Eaten nothing since last night? This woman must be nuts," Lennon frowned and thought to himself. "Go eat," he said to her.
Nelly was delighted, but when she got off the car and was about to wave him goodbye, he actually followed her.
Seeing her surprise, he grinned evilly and whispered in her ear again, "I know what wicked plans you're thinking of. You can't escape tonight."
She shuddered and immediately said, "I wasn't planning on anything, and I don't intend to escape."
She turned towards to the small restaurant, secretly cursing in her heart, "Why can't he just bugger off?"
The proprietress welcomed her warmly as she stepped in. "Hello dearie, I haven't seen you for a while."
Nelly smiled and said, "Yes auntie, I've been very busy recently. I really miss your dumplings."
"I see, alright, what kind of stuffing do you want today?"
Nelly looked at Lennon. "What kind of stuffing do you want?"
"I'm not eating."
Nelly didn't bother to ask further. She turned back to the proprietress and said, "I want a portion with cabbage, and a portion with celery and meat."
"Okay," she replied and went into the kitchen. Nelly took out a set of cutlery from the container on the table.
Lennon curled his lips. "Looks like you're a regular here."
"You thought I was lying to you?"
She smiled and replied in an earnest expression. "My father loved eating dumplings very much, but my mother doesn't like this kind of comfort food. Hence, my father will always come here when he craved for dumplings. Over time, the dumplings here have become my favourite."
Lennon studied her for a moment and asked, "How do you know Bob? The two of you look close."
"Uncle Bob was my father's classmate and best friend."
Lennon raised his eyebrows. "Your father?"
"Do you know him?" Her eyes fell on his face.
"No, but I've heard of him, the designer of Bar Bridge."
Nelly's expression turned a little cold, and she said with displeasure, "Not only did my father design the Bar Bridge, he also designed the award-winning Daly Bridge of Ring Road, and the floating bridge of Sheen Lake."
Noticing the displeasure in her voice, he replied calmly, "It's not easy to be remembered for the good things you do. But once you do something wrong, people will criticise you forever about it. That's human nature."
There was a hint of anger on her face, but she had to admit that what he said was right.
Two plates of dumplings were served to the table.
"I added a few more each for you, dearie. Enjoy."
"Thank you."
Nelly looked at Lennon with a twinkle in her eye. She turned to the proprietress and said, "Auntie, please serve me some pickle."
Pickle was soon brought to the table.
Nelly asked Lennon, "Are you sure you don't want to eat?"
"Yes."
"Alright, then I'll eat them all myself."
She picked up the cutlery, swallowed a dumpling, and took a bite of pickle.
Lennon couldn't help frowning at the way Nelly was eating.
It was his first time watching someone eat in such a small restaurant.
On top of that, it was his first time watching a woman eat, and worse still, combining pickle and dumplings in a bite.
The most important thing was that Nelly had a really huge appetite.
There were at least fifty or more dumplings. She devoured them all single-handedly.
Once she was full, she patted her belly and said with satisfaction, "It's a pity you didn't taste them. They were so delicious."
After that, she stood up and settled the bill.
He stared at her back and could not help smiling.
It was the first time he had met a woman who did not care what he thought about her.
On the way to the hotel, Nelly didn't speak much.
They went up to the 66th floor together. He closed the door and pinned her against it. As he was about to kiss her, she blocked his mouth with her palm.
"Why do you still want to refuse me after arriving here?" he grumbled.
With a charming smile, she drew back her palm and wrapped both arms around his neck instead. "I just had pickle and the smell lingers. Are you sure you want to do this now?"
At such a close distance, it was impossible for him not to smell her breath.
He raised an eyebrow. "Go take a shower."
"Okay, but I need to make a phone call first. Why don't you shower first?"
Lennon did not suspect anything. He turned and went into the bathroom.
Nelly stared at the bathroom door, smiling slyly.
Once she heard the sound of running water from the bathroom, she opened the front door.
Throwing one last glance at the bathroom door, she quickly left the room.
