Not giving her a chance to speak, he lowered his head and kissed her on the lips.
She reached out to hold his shoulders and turned her face away to avoid his kiss.
He curled his lips. "Don't you want me to accompany you to the banquet?"
She sighed. She used to think that he was hard to manage since he always behaved distant and serious.
However, it seemed that he's just another d*ckhead like any other men.
"We're going to be late."
"And so?"
"If I can't attend tonight's banquet in time, my plan will fail. If it fails, you won't marry me. In that case, I have no reason to offer my body to you, right?"
Smiling, her fingers gently pinched his collar as she tilted her head upwards. Her lips grazed his cheek and stopped just by his ear. She whispered charmingly to him, "If you want to sleep with me, become my husband. Otherwise... yesterday will be our one and only night."
The man stared at the bold woman pinned under him. Surprisingly, he didn't feel angry at all.
This woman had good looks, guts, and strategy.
For the first time ever, he felt that it was extremely interesting to challenge a smart woman.
He rose, rolled down the window, and called the chauffeur back to his car.
They reached and ascended the hotel where the banquet was held. He smirked as he watched her take out the invitation card elegantly from her bag. "It seems that I have underestimated you."
Her lips pouted in response. "You still don't know me very well. It's understandable for you to look down upon me. After all, I'm indeed an insignificant figure compared with you."
His eyes fell on her chest. "Yes, apart from here."
Her face blushed though she thought it was a frivolous remark.
The two of them walked into the banquet hall and immediately attracted countless people's attention.
it was easy to imagine the buzz and attention they could gather, being a pair of handsome man and woman with high social ranking...
Someone with an eye for the famous immediately came up to Lennon and started talking to him.
Nelly looked around the hall. Her eyes fell on Bob, the host and president of Everlast Group, who was surrounded by a crowd.
She took Lennon's arm and walked over, waiting just outside the crowd until the people in front finished talking with Bob.
"Uncle Bob."
Bob was surprised to see her. "Nelly? Why, I didn't know you were here."
"Uncle Bob, I asked for an invitation from Shawn without telling you. Hope you don't mind my presence here."
"Not at all. " Bob came forward and patted her on the shoulder. "I have been thinking of meeting you recently too."
As he spoke, his gaze fell on Lennon.
Nelly introduced them to each other. The two shook hands and chatted for a while.
"Uncle Bob, can I... talk to you in private?" Nelly asked.
Bob nodded. "Come, let's go to the lounge."
Nelly turned to look at Lennon before following Bob into the lounge.
The two of them sat down and Nelly said, "Uncle Bob, there's something I want to ask of you."
Bob sighed. "When I saw you bring Master Lennon here today, I knew what you wanted to do, Nelly. I know you must have found something to prove your father's innocence, but you have to understand that finding the murderer is not as simple as you think. Be it Damine Group or Molly Group, how would they allow you to make a fool out of themselves?"
She looked at him and said, "Uncle Bob, no matter how difficult this journey will be, I must finish it. I don't want my father to be in shame even when he's dead. I am his daughter, and I am the only one who can help him clear his grievances. I have made up my mind and nothing will change it."
Bob looked at her helplessly. Nelly's father had always said that his daughter was very stubborn and strong-willed.
When Nelly and Bob walked out, Lennon had a female companion at his side.
She was none other than Lana, with whom Nelly had had a row just this morning.
She didn't expect to meet her here.
Seeing her approach, Lennon looked towards her. What would she do in a situation like this?
Next to him, Lana followed Lennon's gaze and she saw Nelly. Her cultivated air was immediately laced with a trace of anger.
Nelly couldn't help but laugh as she saw Lana's expression. She turned to Bob and asked, "Uncle Bob, do you think I'm a good match for Lennon?"
Seeing Nelly's gaze, Bob said to her, "Young lady, that man's heart is not on you."
"But his heart isn't with Lana either. Lana and I are on the same starting line." A hint of coldness appeared in her eyes. "Uncle Bob, thanks for your time and I hope to bring you good news soon."
After that, she walked towards a couple not far away.
Back when Lana snatched Ron away from her, Lana had said, "Even if you are beautiful, Nelly, you can forget about becoming the focus of men as long as I'm here. That's the difference between you and me, you'll forever be the loser."
Revenge really is a dish best served cold. Today, she will let Lana taste the fruits of her own labour, and know what troubles a careless mouth can bring.
