Into the Lion's DenThe news came on whilst he was standing at the window, gazing out into the night, trying to keep his mind blank, knowing that if he allowed himself to dwell on his wife's words he would crack. Petie. His son. Gone. Across the screen, a story unfolded of another body, another murder. Usually the news channel gave this sort of thing very low priority. Every day people went missing, to be discovered later, usually dead or dying. Such things were commonplace. But someone somewhere thought this incident warranted fuller coverage. Perhaps it was because the police found this victim nailed to the side of a bridge, spread-eagled, arms and legs stretched outwards as far as they would go before the joints popped. Who the hell would do that, unless they wanted it as headline news?
