Chapter 4

Next morning I saw a lady staring at me with dark circles under her eyes. This was entirely his fault. Those stupid grey eyes! Ugh! I took a shower wore a jeans and a crop top, slightly brushed my hair and applied some concealer to hide those dark circles. I went down to have breakfast where I saw Greta and Mrs. Perez having breakfast. “Good morning Rachel”   “Good morning Mrs. Perez”   I took my seat beside Greta and had my breakfast in silence. I told both of them that I was going to the agent Mr. Perez told me about yesterday. Greta offered to drive but I refused. I took her Audi R8 and drove to the agent’s office. He showed me some pictures of places and I narrowed it down to three apartments. One of them was on the North Bay Road just near the beach. Wow a beach house. I’m sure my savings are enough to rent this house. I went to see the house and sure enough I fell in love with it at first sight. There’s a really nice drawing room with chandeliers and stuff. At the very right are stairs for going upstairs where I figured bedrooms are. The kitchen is modular, but I’m really not sure if it’s gonna be used that much by me and the most exciting, instead of a backyard there’s a beach!   I was totally in awe with this house and decided to rent it. The agent told me wait for the deal to be signed and I paid him in advance. I made my way back to Greta’s house and on the way bought some ham burgers for Greta and myself. Again the day was same as yesterday except I felt much relaxed around everyone now. While having dinner Mr. Perez asked me if I prepared for my interview tomorrow, “Yes Mr. Perez. I also have some experience as I was working in Chicago under Mr. Joseph Miller.”   “Then all the very best for tomorrow Rachel. I’ll personally take you there tomorrow.”   “Oh no, Mr. Perez, you don’t have to trouble yourself. I can….”   “I insist my dear.” He cut me off mid-sentence and I couldn’t refuse him. He gave me such a warm fatherly vibe that my father never gave me. I felt like this is like a family I never had but craved for. After dinner I sorted my things out for tomorrow’s interview and took out the formal attire which Greta bought for me while I was gone. And I went to bed again dreaming about grey eyes.   The next day, as Mr. Perez said, he drove me personally and dropped me off to the company. I looked up at the building and I saw Mytheresa embedded on the glass. I was a bit nervous as I have never given an interview before. I worked for Mr. Miller because they asked me to overlook on some designs and make relevant changes which obviously they will not interview me for as he was my father’s good friend. But this was totally different. Not that I lack any confidence or my work is not up to the mark. Just a bit of jitters running through my body. I made my way inside and asked the receptionist about the interview. She gave asked me my name and wrote it down in her notepad and showed me to the waiting area. I sat down there taking account of the ambiance of the office. As expected very modular and elite. The sofas were comfortable and there were various fashion magazines on the tea table in front of me. I picked one up and began reading randomly.   One of the secretaries poke out her head and called out my name, “Miss. Davis, you are up next.”   I went inside and saw a panel of 3 people who were going to interview me. They asked me all sorts of questions and I answered all of them with ease as they weren’t all practical questions and I have majored in fashion designing. So it was not all that hard for me. One of the interviewers, who was a female said, “Thank you Miss Davis for coming here. We would inform you among the results soon.”   I thanked them and made my way out of the cabin. I felt it went well. I hailed a cab and went back to Greta’s. I told her about the interview and she was overly confident about my acceptance. I told her, “I decided to move to the beach house tomorrow. It would be good as soon as possible.”   “Awww! I wanted to spend more time with you.”   “I’m not going anywhere out of Miami. I’m just a call away honey.” I assured her.   “Still it’s not the same you know”   Greta was just like a sister to me. She was so caring that I never felt alone when I came to University of Miami. We hit it off well when we first met. It’s really nice to have a friend like her. In the evening Greta and I we went for some grocery shopping I bought myself some formal attire for the office. Next day I shifted to the beach house, arranged my room decorated it with some posters and made one of the bedrooms into a study. Greta came over to help me. We both went to the supermarket to buy some fruits and kitchen supplies. It all felt really new for me coz’ I never lived alone. My phone buzzed. It was an unknown number. I picked it up and a very formal and professional tone resonated in my ears,   “Good evening, may I speak to Miss Rachel Davis?”   “Yes, I am Rachel Davis” “Congratulations Miss Davis, you are hired as an assistant designer for Mytheresa. You can start from Monday. Is that acceptable?”   Oh my God! This is it! I got the job. Holy cow!   “Miss Davis, are you there?   “Uh… Oh… y-yes. Umm. Yes I’m here. Thank you so much for informing me. I can start the work from Monday.”   I hung up the phone feeling completely awed at myself. I made it. I can do it. I told Greta the good news and she was so thrilled for me. “Haven’t I told you girl. I have a hundred percent confidence on you.” I hugged her and she continued, “we have to celebrate for you acceptance. Oh yes we’ll go to the club comm’on get dressed.”   “I don’t think we should go to the club. Let’s just get some beer and order something to eat.”   “No no no no no, dude its Saturday. If you won’t be partying on a Saturday then when will you?”
