Brandy “What do you mean?” I asked quietly, my brows furrowing in question. Almost as if I was in disbelief over what he just said. “Nate? I don’t understand.” Nate didn’t answer me right away. He focused on getting us out of there. My gaze caught on my grandfather’s as Nate almost peeled out of the parking lot. He waved, a bright smile lighting his face and I saw it reach his eyes, unlike most of the smiles and laughter from earlier. I had noticed he was nearly devoid of life and love. He had lost his wife—my grandmother—shortly after the death of my mother. There were no other relatives: siblings, children. And the grandchildren he had didn’t know him.
