Chapter 9

"Zack, I'm here because I'm worried about you getting sick. Don't think of funny ideas!" Mandy's voice sounded more like a gentle flirtation than a warning as it whispered in my ear. I looked at Mandy in the dim firelight. Her thin camisole perfectly outlined her curves, especially her chest, which caught my eye. A cold wind blew, and I shivered, almost burying my head in her chest. "You brat, what are you thinking?" Mandy scolded playfully, poking my forehead. I took a deep breath, resisting the urge to hug her. She was here to keep me warm out of kindness; taking advantage of that would make me no better than Leo. I closed my eyes, trying to calm down. With Mandy here, I felt warmer and started to relax. Just as I was about to fall asleep, I felt another warm body snuggle up to my other side. I turned to see it was Stella. Her eyes were closed. She was pretending to be asleep, but I could see her eyelashes fluttering slightly. "Stella, do you have a crush on me?" I teased. Stella's eyes flew open in disbelief. "What are you talking about?" "You're holding onto me even in your sleep, and you say you don't?" I pointed at my arm. Stella's face turned red, and she punched my shoulder. "Ouch." The wound on my shoulder, scratched by a branch, had just scabbed over. Her punch reopened the wound, and I felt a headache coming on. She really couldn't take a joke. "Sorry, I... I didn't mean to." Seeing me bleeding, Stella's eyes reddened. She remembered I got hurt because of her and fumbled to find medicine. Seeing her flustered, my heart softened. I took out the medicine I found on the dead body and treated the wound. I patted her shoulder. "It's okay. It's just a small wound. It'll be fine soon." Stella nodded. After I lay down, she awkwardly moved closer. "Zack, it's too dark here. I'm scared," she said, embarrassed. Knowing she was shy, I reassured her gently, "It's okay. I'm here. Just sleep." Suddenly, a small hand pinched the soft flesh at my waist. My face twisted in pain. I turned to see Mandy's displeased expression. I quickly smiled apologetically and closed my eyes. These two women were hard to handle. Between pain and happiness, I gradually fell asleep. But not long after, I sensed a shadow sneaking towards me in the darkness. Startled, I grabbed the fire axe beside me. But when I focused, I sighed in relief. It was Quinn sneaking over while Leo slept. "Zack, I need to talk to you." Quinn whispered in my ear softly, her voice filled with seduction. "What's up? Speak quickly." Remembering how Quinn looked at the grilled fish earlier, I guessed what she wanted to say and sneered internally. "Zack, I just want to say I'm sorry. I was naive and fooled by Leo's sweet words. It was only on this island that I realized a man should be like you. Being with Leo was just for work." Quinn's eyes widened, looking at me pitifully. "Forgive me for my foolishness. I truly love you. Please believe me." There were tears in her eyes. I sneered inwardly. 'Do you still love me? Your love is so cheap!' "We're strangers now. Your love has nothing to do with me. Instead of saying useless things, you should do your part and perform well," I said calmly. Her previous betrayal had made me lose all feelings for her. On this deserted island, my dissatisfaction was just because I felt I wasn't inferior to that scum Leo and wanted to prove myself. As for asking her to perform well, it was because I'd been thinking about how our group's resources should be distributed according to contributions. For example, I should get more resources, while useless people like Leo should eat our leftovers. If Quinn contributed to our survival team, I wouldn't treat her differently. It would benefit our team's stability. However, Quinn seemed to misunderstand my words. Her body stiffened, and her face turned red. Then she quickly kissed my face. "Not now. I'll give it to you when no one is around." I stayed silent, watching her coldly. Quinn, misunderstanding something, looked around. Seeing Leo sleeping soundly, she bit her lip and took off her thin camisole. The faint firelight outlined her alluring figure. Her white skin was blinding. With some shyness on her face, Quinn walked towards me step by step. "Zack, if you want me now, it's okay."
