Alexei’s POV
We were finally alone together. It was nice to be able to get to know each other better. My mate is perfect. I already knew that. I was so happy at how trusting she was with me. She hadn’t even known me for two weeks, but she just showed me that she believed me to be a good man. Most people are not at all accepting of vampires, especially other species. They fear us, and for good reason. It is not smart to lower your defenses around one of us. You wouldn’t realize your mistake until it was way too late.
I still feel her in my arms as I race towards the pack hospital. Cara’s scent still lingers on me, but I cannot stay calm. I wished I could have brought her with me. I need her to be with me. This is a serious incident. But I knew that she wouldn’t be safe there,
