Miracle
"The omega who cleans my car isn't here, Mira. Can you just do it? You're done with your task, right?" Lexus, my half-brother, suddenly appeared in my line of sight. He was two years younger than me, but the way he treated me made it seem like I was his slave, someone he could order around.
"It's your car, and you're old enough, Lexus. Why not clean it yourself?" I spoke.
His face immediately darkened, his displeasure intensifying at my response. "And who are you again to dare reject my order?" he retorted with harsh disdain. "You're nothing but an outcast, so quit pretending to have a spine, Mira. If Mother catches wind of this defiance, you'll wish you were already dead." His threat dripped with venom, leaving no room for compromise.
"Clean my car. I won't take no for an answer," he growled before turning and walking away.
I let out a resigned sigh and made my way outside to fulfill Lexus's demand. Even though I didn’t like it, there was nothing I could do. In this pack, my voice counted for nothing.
As I scrubbed away at the layers of mud coating Lexus's car, a simmering anger welled up within my heart. I had no idea where he had taken this vehicle for it to be this muddy.
My clothes clung to my body, soaked with a mixture of sweat and water, making me look like a complete mess, and when the beta's son passed by me, I could see the subtle disgust on his face.
“Where’s Lexus?” he suddenly asked.
I just shrugged my shoulders in response. I didn't know where that son of a b***h had gone.
“Why are you cleaning his car?”
I couldn't fathom what kind of miracle had occurred, that the snobby Niccolo actually talked to me. In this pack, it was a rare event for anyone in the upper echelons to engage in conversation with me, unless they had a request—except, of course, for Savannah, the delta's daughter, who frequently teamed up with her posse to make my life more miserable.
"Oh, my ew, you talked to her, Niccolo?"
Speaking of the devil, Savannah emerged like a mushroom in front of us, with her gang of warfreaks in tow. I chose to ignore them and focus on my task. Peace of mind was a rare luxury in my life, only granted when my mother left the pack for meetings with others. But these troublemakers seemed to exist solely to take her place in torturing me.
"Hey, you, illegitimate child. You're suited for this kind of work... dirt for dirt," Savannah taunted, her words met with laughter from her friends.
"Aren't you ashamed to live knowing that nobody wants you? If I were you, I'd just commit suicide," she added, her words dripping with heartlessness.
“Sav, that’s enough,” Niccolo rebuked.
“Shut up, Nicco! You’re such a spoilsport.”
I had no intention of indulging Savannah's petty bullying, so I focused on cleaning the car. However, when she escalated by hurling water at me and dirt onto the nearly spotless vehicle, my patience wore thin. Anger surged within me, and in a moment of rage, I swung the bucket I was holding. It struck her squarely in the face with such force that she immediately crumpled to the ground, unconscious. Despite the dirt traces on her face, I saw blood gushing on her forehead, and horror washed over me, especially when her friends began to panic.
“Oh, colored juices! It’s red…it’s blood…Savannah is bleeding!” one of Savannah’s friends exclaimed.
“Savannah looks like a melted marshmallow,” the ponytailed girl noted, glancing at me. “You’ll gonna be dead meat!”
I am.
A brutal slap crashed onto my face, the sting amplifying the memory of what had transpired moments ago. "What the heck did you do to my daughter?" Savannah's mother burst forth in a blazing inferno of anger.
It was her daughter who had initiated everything, but I couldn't deny that I had gone overboard. In this pack, no matter how earnestly I pleaded or tried to defend myself, the fault would always be firmly pinned on me.
"I'm sorry," I stammered, the words laden with regret, "It wasn't my intention to hurt your daughter." But in the midst of the chaos, I knew my apology would likely fall on deaf ears, lost in the storm of their unwavering animosity.
"If something happened to Savannah, I'll personally kill you. I don't care if you're Luna's daughter," she snarled.
"Sure, Mildred. You can kill her whenever you want," my mom's voice cut through the tension, her calm demeanor masking a dangerous aura. At her side stood the Alpha, his expression as emotionless as ever.
"What happened?"
The Alpha's voice held a foreboding weight, and fear gnawed at my heart as I turned and fled from the scene, knowing that the consequences of my actions could be dire.
I ran with an absent mind. I had lived in fear my entire life, but never before had I been gripped by such a profound dread. I know that if anything happened to Savannah, her family would never forgive me, and my own mother would offer no help.
In this pack, I had no one to depend on but myself. The thought of escape had never crossed my mind, but at this moment, all I yearned for was to leave this place for good.
‘You could have brought some clothes or food before escaping, Miracle,’ Light complained as we trekked through the now dimly lit woodland.
Fear had overwhelmed me a while ago, pushing rational thoughts aside, and her interruption jolted me back to reality. We were already beyond the pack's boundaries, and having never ventured out in my 18 years of existence, I had no idea where to go, and the lack of supplies began to weigh on me.
‘We can just hunt down wild animals,’ I suggested.
I ran endlessly, and when I sensed that even if my mother sent armies to search for me, they wouldn't be able to find me, I finally slowed down. Hunger and thirst suddenly registered in my body, and I realized that I had lost track of how many hours I had been running to escape the consequences of my actions.
My eyes scanned the woodland for a place to rest for the night, and my heart leaped with relief when I spotted a small hut made of bamboo. With a sigh of gratitude, I made my way towards it, hoping to find shelter from the looming darkness and a chance to ease the gnawing hunger and thirst.
Even before I reached the bamboo hut, a surge of electricity coursed through my body, sapping my strength and causing my vision to blur. Darkness gradually overtook my senses, and I collapsed onto the ground. Just before consciousness slipped away entirely, I heard a voice.
"We've caught the rogue, Alpha," a man shouted, and then silence descended, broken only by the sound of footsteps. "It's a she-wolf."
