9 ALI Theo’s eyes had a strange, silverish glow to them, almost the way an animal’s looked in the dark. Like that wolf I’d thought I’d seen earlier. Theo had said it was a neighbor dog, but I knew what I saw. I’d grown up on a ranch. I knew the difference between a dog and a wolf, and that animal had been no dog.
