Chapter Eighteen

1069 Words
Elizabeth walked through the park as she usually did when heading into the shops, a young man and an older gentleman both watched her from where they sat on a sun-soaked bench. They had been following the youngest of the clan since his separation from the two elders, they were quite shocked to see the young girl still alive. The temptation was becoming far too much to bear for the younger of the two, as he stood to make his way to the girl. The older man tried to grab at his arm but missed, she wasn't who they were sent to watch although it was curious that she was still alive. When they had stopped seeing her with the group of vampire they had assumed that she had finally been killed, her absence was noted by the young man who was quite fascinated by her. He had been the one to figure out that she was with the group and had traced back through the records of their travels, finding her with them for the past four years. They couldn't figure out if she was purely human or a witch as well as she was frequently spotted in occult shops, it was reasoned that she was there for the mad one, who had visions of the future. The Chroniclers had been observing the vampires and their travels for some time now and once they were spotted in Prague the two men were sent in to observe and record their behavior again. It was a very dangerous business and the previous Chroniclers that had been watching this particular clan had gone missing, much likely meeting a bloody death. The four moved around a lot and were more dangerous than master's who controlled much larger territories, they were more vicious. The minions they created were simply tools to be discarded once they were no longer useful, to that clan only the childer were of importance they were like birds of prey, leaving pure c*****e in their wake. Finding the girl in Prague was a shock to the Chroniclers and it suggested to them that her presence within the clan was more than it seemed. The younger of the two whose name was Conner had sent a letter to the higher ups at the headquarters wanting to take her in for questioning, he had yet to receive a letter back from them. The lack of curiosity that they had for the girl was very shocking for the young man, he moved closer to the girl his feet crunching harshly on the gravel. He tipped his hat at her with a polite smile. "Excuse me." She said in English before correcting herself and speaking in German, moving to step around him. "It's so good to hear someone speaking English, are you American?" He said as he reached for her arm. She looked at the hand holding her arm for a moment before looking up at him, "Yes I am." "Let go of her Conner, you're giving the poor girl a fright." The older gentleman told his companion. Conner let go of her arm looking rather bashful at his slip up. "I'm quite sorry for my friend's manners, my name is Thomas." He turned a gentle smile to the young woman. Elizabeth looked flustered, be it meeting another person speaking English in this far away land or the fact that these two men were speaking to her without being properly introduced Thomas didn't know. She nodded at the two men as they tipped their hats at her bidding her a good day, she scurried quickly down the path. "You Ass, for all you know she's been ordered not to say anything to anyone and you could've gotten her killed." Thomas sat on a bench looking far paler than normal. "Pretty little thing isn't she." Conner said wishing he had been able to question her, he still has hope that headquarters will send him a message letting him do so. *** Elizabeth quickly made her way into town heading towards the shops, she was very upset as she made her way into the jewelry store knowing that shopping for Fiona would be the easiest. She browsed around a bit before finding a pretty ornate emerald and pearl choker that would suit the oldest vampire of the clan nicely, she stood waiting at the shop counter as the owner packed it into a nice box very carefully. He smiled at her as she left happy about her spending so much in his store. She headed to a book shop next browsing the titles leisurely before finding a thin leather book of poetry that she didn't think the older vampire had read yet. She purchased it much to the shock of the owner who wasn't used to seeing a woman being able to read. She walked a bit further going into a yarn shop to grab Mary a few skeins of yarn for her latest project, she was working on a lovely lace shawl for her grandsire, the pale green color would look nice on her. A few shops down she felt the tingle of magic in the air and headed towards it, she found an occult store tucked out of the way. She drew closer peaking in before deciding she would check it out quickly, she had a bit of time before she was due back. She walked in, the smoky smell of incense hitting her harshly. She browsed around a bit before the shop owner came up to her a woman in her early forties with a pleasant smile, her belly swollen with child. "Anything I can help you with dearie?" She said her soft voice comforting the girl. "Just browsing, you wouldn't happen to have anything related to time travel would you?" She smiled at the owner trying not to get her hopes up. "I'm afraid I don't dear, time travel is risky business," She looked chidingly at Elizabeth, "Best not to be mucking around in it." Elizabeth looked down nodding at the woman her hood tilted back off her head, "Oh dear, it seems you've already gotten mixed up in it haven't you?" She said seeing the girl's aurafor the first time. "Best follow me dearheart." She motioned for the girl to follow her. Elizabeth held her breath feeling a glimmer of hope that she hadn't felt in a very long time.
