With her legs aching from the Queen’s Flight ride, April walked into Cuppa Jo’s vintage diner and saw Deb sitting at the red Formica counter.
Deb looked relieved. “What happened? I was about to go look for you. Are you okay?”
April smirked and eased onto a red vinyl-covered stool. “I nearly got a ticket.”
“On a bicycle? For what?”
“Not signaling a turn. Do you know Officer Blumenthal?”
Deb grinned. “That’s Blue. He was probably looking out for you. Or checking you out.”
“Hardly. I’m old enough to be his mother.”
“Blue likes to know who’s new in town. You haven’t been out much.”
“Well, he knew Mama, too.” But then, Ella had been a nurse in the emergency room, so that wasn’t surprising, now that she thought about it.
“Everyone loves your mother.”
