CHAPTER 5

“Brooke, I’m not letting you go into that hell again with him!?” Claire held back her hand as Brooke dragged her luggage out of her bedroom. Brooke took her hands as she let out a deep sigh, “I’m sorry, Claire…But I don’t have a choice here, and besides…” she paused for a while. “I still love him…” Brooke continues. Claire didn’t say anything, but her eyes were looking intently at Brooke. She hugged her tightly. “I just hope you make the right choice this time…” Claire said, her expression softened a bit as she curved a small smile on her lips. Brooke nods at her, “Thank you, Claire.” She said before she went out of her apartment. As Brooke walked out from the lobby, Elliot’s car was already parked beautifully in the front waiting for her. Elliot leans on his car as he grinned widely at Brooke. He hurriedly helped Brooke to carry her oversized luggage. Brooke hopped into the passenger seat first. She saw Elliot putting her luggage in the back trunk. After seeing him again, she tried to persuade herself that this is the right thing to do. Elliot is the best thing that ever happened in her life. Elliot went to sit in the driver’s seat beside her. He drove in silence while occasionally smiled at her. “Where are we going?” Brooke asked as she realized that they were heading in the opposite direction to their house. “I’m taking you out on dinner first… It’s been a while since we had a date together.” He smiled meaningfully at her. Brooke raised one eyebrow at him. “I never knew you were a romantic type of person…” She teased. Elliot lets out a chuckle. “I can be romantic for you…or anything that you want.” He grabbed one of her hands and landed a kiss on the back of her palms. Brooke just rolled back her eyes at that. *********** It’s been a week since Brooke moved back with Elliot. He’s been nothing but a good husband to her, but they were both still legally divorced. The s*x between them was good, even better than before they got separated. Elliot still insisted on having a baby from Brooke, but she was still a little bit uncertain inside. “Where are you going, Brooke?” Elliot said as he pulled her back to the bed. “I’m going to take a bath…” Brooke giggled as she felt his lips lightly teasing her neck. “How about another round? Hmm…” Elliot murmured as he planted a kiss on her lips. “No, Elliot…I could think of something more important than a baby right now,” Brooke said, breaking their kiss. Elliot frowned at her, “Like what?...” He asked curiously. “Like saving our business? We’ve got bills to pay, Elliot.” Brooke said softly as she touched his cheek. Elliot let out a deep sigh, “Yes, you’re right…I’m sorry for being so selfish.” He then said. Brooke shook her head as she smiled at him. “No, you’re not wrong for wanting to be intimate with me,…But we have to be realistic as well. We can’t just live in a fairytale life.” Brooke replied. “Should I went to meet Mr. Darcy again?” Elliot suddenly offered. Brooke was deep in her own thought for a moment. “I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to meet him, considering what happened last time…How if I go instead?” she said as she grabbed her phone from the small desk near the bed. Elliot held back her hand as she typed a message. “Are you sure about this, Brooke? Maybe we can find someone else to help us.” He looked deeply concerned with her idea. Brooke let out a small laugh as she looked back at him. “Elliot, I believe you know how powerful Mr. Darcy is in the wedding industry, right?” she asked rhetorically at him. Like it or not, he had to agree with Brooke on this matter. Mr. Darcy owns the famous wedding editorial magazine in NYC named “I DO”. Other than getting the money, they could gain popularity if “Ohana Wedding” gets featured in his magazine. Elliot suddenly snapped back into reality as he saw Brooke jumping happily in their bed as she shouted out a yes. “He said yes!? We’ll meet today at 10…Oh My God! I need to get ready.” She said as she rushed towards the bathroom. He soon heard the water running from inside. Sometimes Elliot can’t determine whether it is good or bad to have such an ambitious wife. He shook his head as he smiled. ***************** Brooke waited patiently in the café as she took another glance at her watch. This time she got there earlier than him. She purposedly came thirty minutes earlier, reciting the speech that she would say to convince Mr. Darcy when he got here. Not long after, she saw a familiar car stopped in front of the café. She took a glance at her watch, just on time. As expected from a successful person like Mr. Darcy. There’s a thing about wealthy people, they always appreciate the time. Brooke waved at Mr. Darcy, and he immediately walked towards her as he saw her sitting at the corner table. “Ms. Lee…You’re early!” he said, in a rather mocking tone but with a slight smile on his face. She got up from her chair as she motioned him to sit in front of her. “It’s been a while, Mr. Darcy…” Brooke said, breaking the awkwardness between them. He studied her face for a while before he answered. “Yes… How’ve you been, Brooke?” he asked. It’s been hell, Mr. Darcy…Thanks to you! That is what she wanted to told him, but she held back. Brooke shrugged her shoulders, “As you can see…I’m fine…Life must go on no matter how hard it is.” She then said with a fake smile. Mr. Darcy’s expressionless face makes her even more nervous. “This is what I like about you, Brooke…You’re strong…You don’t need a man to survive.” He said as he held his chin with his fingers.   “I got curious about how you’re doing after the divorce, so I agreed to meet you right now.” He continued. Brooke gave him a bitter smile. If only he knew that she already got back with Elliot. She cleared out her throat before she told him the main purpose of their meeting today. “So here’s the thing, Mr. Darcy…I was wondering, can you please consider my proposal again?” Brooke asked, fiddling her finger to ease the nervousness. He was silent, and it was sucking the life out of her. “You still won’t give up on that company, do you?” Mr. Darcy said in amusement. Brooke nods vigorously at him. “Well, of course! No matter how shitty my life goes…The company is my dream.” She replied, looking up at him. Mr.Darcy nods at her, seemingly pleased. “Mr. Darcy, please…You know how capable I am in running this business. You still remember Rowan Knowles’s wedding from last year, right?” Brooke said again. He was a famous celebrity. Brooke planned and organized his wedding, and it went pretty well. It was like winning a lottery when one day a celebrity asked for your service out of nowhere. “Yes, the wedding is impressive…How can I forgot?” Mr. Darcy smiled at her. She let out a deep sigh of relief. “Thank you, Mr. Darcy.” She replied. “I’ll help you…” He suddenly said. She almost broke down in tears of happiness. She couldn’t believe her own ears. He finally said yes to her proposal. “But under one condition…” he added. “Just named it, Mr. Darcy.” Brooke was too happy to think of anything right now. Her business finally could survive. She already thinks of a million things to start all over again. “You have to be seen publicly with another man before I transferred the fund to you…You know, just to wipe out that nasty rumors about your previous relationship.” Mr. Darcy said with no humor in his voice. Brooke’s mouth went ajar, “B-But how can I find a man in such a short amount of time?” she said, almost complaining. Mr. Darcy stood up from his chair. “That’s your problem, Brooke. I’ve stated my condition, and you can handle the rest… Contact me when you’re ready.” He said sternly before he walked out of the café. Leaving her speechless.      ************ “That crazy old man!?” Elliot roared as Brooke told her about what happened in her small meeting with Mr. Darcy this morning. She plopped herself on the couch as she threw her high heels to the floor. “What should we do now, Elliot? It’s almost like he’s trying to find some excuse to reject my offer.” Brooke said in desperation. “There’s no way I’m going to let you meet another man, Brooke! I would rather die than agree to that.” He said as he went over to the couch and pulled her over his lap. “I know…This is crazy.” She breathed out. “We’ll figure something out later…” she said again, and Elliot kissed her forehead, then looked deeply at her, admiring her face. “How can I trust the man around you if you’re this beautiful?” He said before kissing her lips fervently. Brooke turned around, straddling him with both her legs as they deepened the kiss. His hands went to her back as he lay her back on the couch without breaking their kisses. Brooke almost protest when he suddenly drew apart from their kisses, “I have an idea!” Elliot suddenly said. She frowned at him, “Jackson…” Elliot said, and Brooke’s eyes went wide. He can’t be possibly…? “Are you kidding me right now? Why Jackson?” Brooke said, she suddenly went furious. “Come on, Brooke! I think you can handle Jackson, right? We’re all good friends in high school, and if it was him, I am sure he won’t dare to lay a finger on you.” Elliot said in a convincing tone. Brooke then got up and went to their bedroom. Banging the door loudly behind her.
