"Before we look at 'the plan', I need to ask a question regarding James. Why was I kept in the dark? Why did no one tell me about the part he was playing in protecting me?" Cordelia asked in irritation. "It kind of ticks me off that no one trusted me enough to tell me."
With a wry smirk, James quickly responded, "It's not that we didn't trust you. But your obvious contempt for me, and distrust of me, and my supposed relationship with Ebony kept them from suspecting anything. Your total disdain for me was something that kept you safe. You know those three watches you like a hawk when you are in their presence. Even the slightest show of interest in me on your part would have triggered Ebony. You know why I didn't want that!"
The rest of the group looked at James with puzzled expressions.
