It was mere moments after I received the mission that I began to hear the growls, hisses, snarls and chitterlings of other monsters coming close to me. I looked down at the baby panda in my hands, and I knew that it would slow me down, like a lot. But I couldn't move without it, and should it not survive, I automatically fail the mission, and the failure as usual would be death. I had to get out of here right now, like immediately.
I was wearing a long sleeved shirt, and an armless jacket. I quickly pulled the long sleeve off and used it to tie the panda to my back, right on top of the jacket. This should keep my hands free, and the baby panda secured. As if to remind me it was still there, the baby panda wrapped it's arms and kegs around my body a little tighter, it felt a little weird to me, but this was the only other option we have in front of us.
I picked up a ridiculously long metal blade that was lying a little to close to the mouth of the giant dead demonic blade wolf. But thankfully it was as dead and not living as the metal that grows out of it's body. Both edges of the blade were really jagged, and just the process of carrying it alone already left me with really bad cuts. I shrugged my shoulders and then moved forward, turning round the corner just in time to watch a stinger head directly for my right eye.
*whoosh Bang!*
I took a quick step back as the stinger heading to my face slammed into the wall besides me, blasting little pieces of stone and dust everywhere. But even then, it would have been incredibly stupid of me not to press my advantage, so I swung the metal blade that was a meter long and ten inches wide at the flame wolf scorpion that just attacked me, squashing it's entire body into a wall until all that was left was goo.
I rushed forward into the open and felt my heart jump into my throat, from ever direction imaginable, essence beasts along with qi demons of every shape and size where coming after me and the baby panda on my back. There was no time to dawdle, and there was no room for mistakes, I really had to get a move on, and get the hell out of town.
There was a herd of swine like beasts heading for me, the single horns on their head glowed a deep blue as they opened their mouths and began firing bright beams of blue light at me. I shifted left and right, twisting and moving my body through the air like I was dancing or swimming. The martial art I was using had no name yet because I really didn't know what to call a combination of taichi, Muay Thai, and jiujutsu.
But the core essence of each of those martial art seems to be ingrained deeply in my bones and mind, and most especially the taichi philosophy of countering hardness with softness, and combining that with Muay Thai's quick strike ability and not wasted movements, it became really easy for me to dodge everything thrown at me by a hair's breath.
I swung the blade in my hands like a wooden board, since I had no proper training in how to utilize a weapon, this was the only way I could make use of it. And so I relied on this crude way of fighting and my martial arts to survive. The beams thrown at me had unfortunately fallen on quite a few other monsters that were surrounding me, completely freezing them into ice sculptures where they stood. But most of them still remained alive, so I used their bodies as a distraction to defend against the attacks of others aiming for the ground.
My hands were bleeding from holding the huge blade and swinging it around without any modicum of protection. But at this point using my healing skill has sort of become an unconscious thought for me, so just as I was getting injured from both the actions of swinging the blade, and from the monsters that successfully got an attack in, I was able to heal everything back in mere seconds.
The herd of ice shooting boars were keeping their distance from me, and with more intelligence than I expected from monsters, they had arranged themselves into a phalanx formation, like a couple of army archers, and they were continuously firing their ice bombs at me, and all the while I was still under the onslaught of other monsters.
*Skreee*
There was this tingle at the back of my head, like an alarm clock going off and my entire body was ringing in response. I heard the screeching sound, and felt it almost at the same time, So I turned in half moon rotation and swung the blade in my hand like a bat at whatever it was that was flying at me.
*Bang!*
The hit completely shook my hands, tearing the blade out of my grip as a cut so deep you could actually see bone showed up in my hands. The monster that had attacked me was actually a bird as big as my own body, and with a wing span almost two meters wide. For the most part it looked normal, except for the fact that it had no eyes, and it's beak was shaped like a Venus fly trap with it's serrated jaws clamped together. It's neck had been broken from our clash, and its body was turning into ice after being hit by the ice boars. The blade was nowhere to be seen, as it was buried under a pool of rapidly expanding blood, and numerous ice sculptures. I was still being encircled, and with the boars opting to move a little closer there would be less and less chance for me to evade their attacks and use it against the other monsters, but I had an idea.
I took a deep breath and three massive steps as I jumped and landed right in the middle of a significant amount of monster ice sculptures, and as I jumped down, I made sure I used my (EARTH TREMOR) skill. And that was all I needed, as the shockwave blasted the sculptures to pieces in a two meter radius and sent them flying outwards like shrapnel from a grenade going off.
The pieces of various size and shapes flew through the air, stabbing into the body of some of the monsters, or crushing, cutting, and bruising others depending on its size and shape. I move myself forward, towards the boars as they were on my path to escape. I jumped again, though jumping was not required to use the skill, I realized that physical gestures seemed to amplify the power and range of the skill when I used it by a little.
More ice shards blasted outwards, and this time some of the boars were a little closer, so they flew backwards into their friends, messing up their formation and leaving quite a few of them Injured. But as far as the boars were concerned, there was no way I was just going to let them be, so kept on using the earth tremor, relying on it to keep monsters on the ground away from me, while I dodged and attacked those that chose to fly through the air at me, killing them with precise blows to vital areas, or snapping their necks.
{Earth Tremor has reached level 2 range has increased by one meter.}
A mini earthquake skill with me at the epicenter and an intense knockback effect. With it's increased range, though it was not by much, taking care of the ice boars, who had completely lost their will to fight after I disrupted their formation, became incredibly easy. I don't know why, but these monsters were really peculiar, as soon as their first line collapsed, they started behaving like a couple of Mindless drones, standing where they were, as if they all had lost their minds.
I'm sure I would be able to discover the secret behind it if I appraised them, but I had no time for that. The path ahead of me was clear, or at least some of it, so I broke into a run. I was even more shocked by my increase in speed as I vaulted over fallen pillars, and squashed smaller monsters the size of puppies and dogs to death. I was moving so fast that I would take me just under three to five minutes to get back to the storage room, but then.
*BOOM!*
"What the HELL IS THAT?!!!"
*GROOAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR*
