5 Driving over the Willamette River you can see the hulk of Mount Tabor touching the sky to the east, along with Mount Hood in the distance. The white-topped volcano Mount Saint Helen’s looks peaceful enough in its corner of Washington State, minding its business over there, though you can sense the foreboding—you don’t want to piss off a volcano and send it heaving in your direction, or any direction for that matter.
