Awakening
“What’s that scent?” I lifted my nose up and sniffed the air around me. I couldn’t help but gulp down the drool forming in my throat as my eyes opened. The smell made my stomach growl but not from hunger. It’s like I suddenly thought of my favorite food and the smell made me crave for it.
I got up slowly and check the clock on my bedside table. It’s only a quarter past twelve and I’ve barely been asleep thinking about my debut party that day.
I rubbed my eyes with my hand and sluggishly got up but i fell back on my bed when the smell hit me once again but this time it’s stronger. Like it’s coming from somewhere near. I felt my nerves go alive with the little tingling sensations and I lick my lips as I sniff the air with delight.
“Am I getting excited? But why?” I wondered.
Because our mate is near.
“Whoah! Who said that?” I jumped back on my bed when I heard a female voice. It was sweet but it sounded as if someone whispered right next to my ears.
I looked around my room but found no one. “Who’s there? Is any body here?” I called out loud while my hand reached for to the baseball bat resting on the side of my bed.
What do you plan to do with that bat? Hit your own head? The voice mocked me. I could imagine her raising her furry white brows at me while a smirk formed on her snout, showing her white sharp fangs.
Wait! Snout? Furs? Fangs? I-is that a… dog? I blinked many times to clear my vision and adjust my sight against the darkness in my room. My eyes widened as the image became clearer in my mind.
Oh Goddess! A dog? You seriously think I’m a dog? Oh Sylvie, if you aren’t sharing one body with me, I’d snap your neck right now.
“Sharing one body? What are you saying?”
I looked down on my own body and shook my head when I realized what I just did. I narrowed my eyes and gripped on the bat tighter.
“What am I saying why am I talking to someone I can’t see? I must be going crazy! Or is this a dream? Am I having a nightmare?”
I pinched my arm as hard as I can, only to wince when I felt the pain. “Ouch!” I rubbed the arm that hurts now while I heard the voice giggle.
Nonsense! You aren’t going crazy sweetheart. It just so happen that I’ve finally awaken.
“Awaken? So who are you really?”
I am Violet, your wolf.
“Wolf?! Wait, what? I’m human! I’m not a werewolf like D!”
Really? So how do you explain my existence? Again with her sarcasm. This dog has a smart mouth.
Wolf! I’m not a dog, I’m a wolf! And you young lady is a she-wolf.
I made a face when she called me young lady. Eww! I am definitely not one.
Oh please! It’s not important what you think now. Get your ass up and find our mate!
"Mate? You mean like that crazy bedtime story mom always tells me about?" I now I look silly talking to myself now but it seemed like the most natural thing to do.
It’s not a bedtime story. It’s real. He is and he’s near. I can smell him! I can feel him!
My face turned sour at the excitement in her voice. I didn’t even finish processing what she had said about me being a she-wolf and the idea of me going nuts yet now, she’s claiming that fairy tale story mom used to tell me about mates are real.
I can't even begin to imagine how on Earth I became a wolf! My mom never mentioned dad to be one, and I'm sure she isn't either. I don’t mind the whole werewolf thing really though, I mean my best friend happened to be one. It’s been our little secret since he turned eighteen six years ago and I accidentally witnessed him shift.
Well maybe that's why it was the coolest thing a twelve year old me had ever seen. Yeah it looks painful and scary, but still cool! I remember wishing to be a wolf too. So now that I got my wish, though I’m not sure how or why, it’s easier to accept the idea. What bugged me more is that Violet said my mate is a ‘he’.
Ugh! Guys are disgusting! They’re perverts and stupid! They think with the head inside their pants, heck, even my best friend does! Yeah I love D, but him being a womanizer disgusts me as well.
I’m never going to want to be mates to a guy, not if I can help it.
Well babe, you are up for a surprise!
“Wait, do you have an idea who the guy is? Tell me so I can hide!” Violet growled at my remark the same time the scent hit me again. I involuntarily closed my eyes and licked my lips. A moan escaped from me from the sweet yummy scent.
You were saying? Violet giggled and I rolled my eyes at her.
Why does he have to smell like my favorite ice cream flavors? This is going to be hard to resist. I clutched on my pillow and buried my face to it, hoping to stop the scent from reaching my nose and making me crazy.
Stop resisting! It’s no use! You are fated by the moon Goddess Selene and she never makes a mistake in Mate matching. Go find him!
"Argh!" My head feels like bursting with all her nagging that I gave up. I jumped off the bed and walked out of my room. I was sniffing around, trying to catch where the scent was coming from when my mom saw me she was just coming in from her night shift.
“Why are you still up birthday girl?” She kissed my cheek but I didn’t respond. My attention was focused on tracking the sweet scent. I sniffed around the living room. Whoever that guy is he surely left his scent on my place. But what is he doing here? How can he get in when I was sure I locked the door when Darius left earlier.
“Darius…”
“Oh why? Did he left something? I just saw him as I was pulling the car over.”
“You just saw him go out?”
“Yeah, he said you guys just finished the movies.” She looked confused then her eyes wondered to my sleep wear.
That’s a lie. We finished watching before nine and I saw him walk out of the door. Did he sneak in again? Does that mean that this scent is…
“Look honey, I know you guys are best friends and that you are like siblings but don’t you think you should not be walking around bra less in front of him? He’s still a guy you know and you are a woman now…”
I didn’t let her finish. I stormed out the front door and sniffed the air once more.
The scent is coming from the forest behind our home!
The tree house! He must be in the tree house. It’s our hiding place since we were kids and our favorite place since it’s near the river. Why would he go there after coming here? What is he up to?
“Wait Vie! Where are you going? It’s dangerous!” I heard my mom’s muffled cries but I didn’t pay it any heed. I’ll explain it to her later and we have a lot to talk about but right now I have to find D. I’m not so happy with the idea of having him as my mate but the need to be with him is far too overwhelming for me to set aside.
