CHA 3: Mafia Clans

1423 Words
RAVEN The scorching sun and my frustration felt like I was walking through an oven. I gasped for air feeling suffocation rising around me like a wave. It's the 5th time I got rejected in a job interview, a polite rejection at that. I wonder why it is so difficult to secure a freaking job in this city. The interviewers polite rejections were always "We will get back to you" which sounds like "Get the hell out of my universe" in my ears. As I continued to stride down the busy streets, my eyes darted to a mini-coffee shop and they had a huge board hang on the wall of the entrance. I moved closer to read what was written, "Punctual and reliable waiters needed". I paused after reading it, and I pondered, I'm punctual and reliable and also broke too. With no more hesitation I scuttled inside, gazing at the simple decor. There wasn't much people around indicating how small and reserved the coffee shop is. I stood there clueless of what to do, I darted my eyes at the counter to find quite a pretty girl beaming at me, and gesturing me to come forward. I hesitated for a while before stepping to the counter corner. "Hi, I'm Aria. What may I offer a handsome man like you?" she blurted and my eyebrows arched at her. She then continues "Cold, hot or warm coffee? I would advice you to have warm coffee so your cute face won't turn red". She was definitely flirting with me with her lips pouting out every now and then. Only if she had the slightest idea that I am a damn broke guy, her likeness will dispel at once. I gazed around one more time as she patiently waited for me to say something. I swallowed hard after fathoming something responsible to say to her, "I'm not actually here for that. You see I'm here to find a job". Suddenly her jaw dropped, her face evident of shock. "Hey quite joking" she stunned herself in a disbelieving chuckle like she had lost some nuts in her skull. I remain calm watching her, some unfamiliar man came up to us from behind me, with a stern voice piercing through her chuckle. "Aria what the hell is wrong with you?" the man asks as he looks around, bewilderment marring his face. Upon seeing the man, she was aggressively inflicted with fear as she recoiled and cowered. "S-Sir Kenner i-i-it's you" she stuttered with a mortified tone. I kept trying my possible best to stifle my laugh, seeing her expression and her fear right now only amused me. "You still haven't answered my question" the man who she called Sir Kenner snapped and she quivered. She's absolutely fazed by his authoritative hinged senses. She gave me a sideway stink eyes, muddling me. Is she expecting me to say something? Hell no! she might as well carry her cross alone, perhaps have a taste of her own medicine. "Nothing sir" she gibbered in fright and Sir Kenner took in a heave of breath before turning to face me. "Please young man what can we offer you?" he asks and the tension I was feeling before flew back like a heavy wave. "Ahem..sir, I'm here to apply for a job as a waiter" I said as firmly as I could. His eyes dilated a bit as his gaze swept me from head to toe. Why is he staring at me like that? Oh no! what if he's homosexual? "Raven snap out!" I cursed inwardly. He then navigated his eyes to Aria, who flinched. "Aria was that why you were laughing?" he furrowed his eyebrows at her. She gaped with her eyes widening "O-Of course n-not sir". Guess she has a tendency of stuttering all the time. "It's alright, young man please just follow me. And also sorry for her attitude" he glanced at Aria as he said his last few bits. I nodded with a slight giggle then I turn to find her glaring at me. Guess I have just made an enemy for myself. WEST I stepped into the Mafia building to find everyone busy with one thing or the other. Some were engaged in a spar, some checking out guns, internet wizards had their eyes glued to their computers. Immediately they saw me, they stood up and bowed. All these people here have passed through rough times in their early life, they have been intimidated, mistreated, abused and they all beared scars of pain they passed through. I'm like a savior to them because I gave them a new hope and a valid reason to keep living. I have made many of them strong, rich, influencer and prominent. All these souls would have been lost if I didn't fill up that gap in their lives. Now they own and run businesses, factories and companies with our Mafia Clan being the foundation behind it all. I have thought of giving up once, but a glimpse at these people and the loyalty they have for me, caused a wave of strength to engulf me; forcing me to keep fighting for our survival. As I walk pass by the training ground heading to the main council building, I sighted Aerith approaching me with quick short steps. "All the council members?" I demanded, it sounded more like a sentence than a question. "Yes Miss West, they're all waiting at the council" Aerith informed. Just then, Rosa scuttled from behind me with a little pant escaping her lips. Aerith furrowed her eyes at her, I gave them both a nod and began making my way towards the council hall, so they followed suit. * * * * * * * * BEVERLY I continued pacing back and forth waiting for them to get back. I already was agitated by their time wasting. I wonder how long it would take two individuals to get back from a wharf. I ruffled my hair anxiously, hereby dishevel it, caring less of how it supposed to have turned out by now. I'm slowly running out of patience, what if it wasn't a complete success? The indistinct footsteps I heard made me spin around as I waited in anticipation. Elvin and Rake made their way into the council meeting hall, their faces conveyed of anger. "So......?" I arched my eyebrows at them for some explanation. "So the mission wasn't a success" Rake rasps and gave himself a seat. Confusion passes through my face as I continued gazing at the two of them. "The imported cars were switched including the plate numbers so we were denied access" Elvin exhaled weakly as my eyes dilated in horror. Who the heck is doing this? It's the third time our imported goods are being switched. "Look, we have to make a move to find out who's behind it" I snapped as I began to ponder. This rubbish has to stop with immediate effect. "No, we are not making any move until Miss Lori gets back" Rake protests and I seethed. And here I thought I and these morons were on the same page. "So we're going to idle around in wait for Lori? What if the other council members begin to ask questions?" I inquired sternly "They won't" Rake assured in a grim "When is the god-damn Lori going to come back?" I blurted in rage "Miss Lori's acting as an emissary and until her mission is over, she won't be back" Elvin stated with his face conveying an air of resolution. "So we have to wait for her to triumphantly come back right?" I scoffed with a disbelieving chuckle. "Right! because the Lord Mafia made it clear that no decisions should be made until Miss Lori returns" Rake enunciates, his voice drops with a semblance of displeasure. I fumed and slump to my chair cogitating. Of course they won't stop making Lori's return perpetual for me, so I rather think and act responsibly. "I'm certain it's those low budget Mafia Clans that's behind this" I fathomed as I continued thinking. Elvin gave a pejorative wave of his head. "According to what I've gathered, our Mafia Clan is the largest and most prominent in the whole of Indonesia and also spreading across South east Asia. No low-ranking Mafia Clan can be so gallant enough to risk it" Elvin declared firmly, causing me to fall silent. Of course no Mafia Clans can be able to challenge us, then who is behind it? I wondered.
