Keno “I’m gonna let you go, if you could tell me exactly what you’re going to do so you could get back to the city unscathed.” I groaned loudly and and ran my hands on my face in exasperation. I had been debating with this guy for almost an hour now but he still was being difficult about it. We almost didn’t finish breakfast. Good thing, Keng was there to calm me down. But the moment we were done with breakfast and the jerk excused himself to make some calls, I followed him straight to where we were at his home office and Keng was not able to do anything to stop me. He had to cancel his calls because I stood there not batting and eyelash. “You have any idea how much my minutes is worth?” He said the moment he ended his call and regarded me standing by the door. “I don’t. And I don’t care. You can go bankrupt and all I would care about is for me to be able to finally go home.” I said as I crossed my hands in front of my chest and regarded him sternly. He closed his eyes and chuckled as a primary response before he spoke. “You want to go home you say? Funny, because the last time I checked, you’re homeless.” I narrowed my eyes at the guy. How did he know about that!?! “Homeless or not, you can’t keep me here. You have no right! This is basically kidnapping. And don’t think that because you’re stinking rich you’ll get away with it.” The guy chuckled after he tutted and made a move towards me. “Stop right there! We don’t need to be too close for us to talk. I just want to go home and all you have to do is tell me how. I won’t even bother for you to have your underlings bring me.” The jerk heaved loudly before her circled back to his seat and sat there languidly. “Very well. If you can tell me exactly the way you’ll be going from here, I’d let you be.” I groaned inwardly. He had his men took me here last night, all emotional and scared and under anxiety attack, with the rain and thunder blaring in how did he suppose I would be able to track the way!?! “Or you could just tell me exactly which way to go.” I glared at him for the nth time like it would work. “I would do that if I want you to go but I don’t, so...” The guy shrugged carelessly at me and I almost wanted to bash him with chair in front of his table but I stopped myself. The deep breath I took, brought me back to the present. “You brought me here against my will with one of your many cars. Why can’t you just have the same car drop me off the nearest bus terminal so I could finally go back to the city and get past this bull shvt!!?!” The jerk just waved his hand at me before answering. “That’s because I didn’t want you to go. Didn’t I make that clear already!?!” I groaned. This time, loudly. I needed him to know how exasperating he was. “And why is that!?! Just because you are rich and you seemed to own the world doesn’t mean you can own me too. I have a life. It may not have been as good as yours but I’m willing to live with as long as I’m free.” He stood up quietly from his seat and I had to take a step back. He didn’t advance towards me tho. He just stood there looking at me and it was slowly getting uncomfortable. “You could do that here. Be free that is.” He said after a while. “Also. I didn’t want to own you. Let’s be clear about that.” I didn’t know why but among all the things he said since I arrived here last night that I hated, I hated what he just said the most. I supposed my heart suddenly tightened. I cleared my throat. It’s not like I wanted him too the jerk! “God!!! You’re so annoying!” I blurted instead. All the more I wanted to be away from there. Away from him. “What is it that you really want from me, huh!?! What did I ever do to you!?!” He was quite yet again and I was not very used to it. “You’ve been nothing but good to me when I had nothing. I just want to return the favor.” I blinked at him. He surely was not talking about the present. And I sure didn’t want to talk about the past. Specially with him. I heard him heaved a loud sight before he spoke. “I know about you and your distant relatives.” He said before I saw him get something from his drawer and placed a Manila envelope on the table. He motioned it at me and I was hesitant for a while but I ended up walking towards where the envelope was on his table. I was confused with what he said. What was it that he knew about me? “You can have it now that you’re here with me. I’ll let you do anything with it.” I furrowed my brows at him and all the more I hit curious with what’s inside so I opened it. It was pictures ad pictures and papers with information about me for the past five years. I looked up at him. Questioning. “I have had you followed for moths now. About the same time I came back here in the country about a year ago. I should have taken you in earlier but I haven’t settled things in here just yet, and we’ve gathered information that you were about to leave your relatives anyway so I waited for the right time. Guess, you can say that the right time was last night.” Take me in!?! Who does he think he is!?! And he had me followed!?! “Why would you do this!?!” I said as I waved the papers in front of me. “I already told you. I wanted to help out.” I snickered and laughed bitterly. “I’m not a charity case Apollo.” Knowing he had all these informations about me now, I’m sure he felt all pity and sad for me and that was the last thing I wanted from people. Specially from him. “No, you’re not. I don’t do charity anyway. At least with you.” I scoffed and put all the papers back inside the envelope. “Then why!?!” Apollo inhaled forcefully before he faced me. “Why do you ask so many questions!?! It’s not like you have a choice. You’re homeless and jobless. You’re broke. What do you plan to do!?!” I blinked at him. Look at this guy being all too pompous. Who does he think he is!?! “I am here and am offering you a fresh start. Why won’t you just accept it!?! You can go to college wherever you want, take any course that you like or work in my company or anywhere you wanted. I can help you out. Just say the word and I’ll make it happen.” I shook my head and snickered even more bitterly than earlier. All these time I was with aunty Ling with her and her daughter treating me like their human ATM machine as I juggled one work after another but I never felt sorry for myself until now with how Apollo was making me feel. “Let me go.” There was so many things I wanted to say but it was the only thing that came out of my mouth. “And where would you go again!?!” He asked as if what I just said was the craziest thing in the world. “The last time I checked, that’s none of your business.” Apollo shook his head before he circled to where I was. “You are my business! I promised your parents that.” I didn’t know how it happened but the moment those words came out of his mouth my fist automatically landed on his face. We were both shocked with what just happened. I saw how the edge of his mouth was bleeding as well as my knuckle but I didn’t care. I suddenly felt weak that I had to take a step back and lean on the chair nearby. My head was dizzy and despite how hard I tried not to, my eyes started to water and I was crying. All the emotions I tried to suppress from last night until then started to flood in and I could no longer control myself that I ended up sobbing and heaving. “Keno—.” Apollo tried reaching out to me but I pushed him away. “Don’t.” I said as I looked up at him with blurry eyes. “Don’t you ever. Ever. Mention my parents again. Not when you didn’t even bother to check on them at the hospital or at least attend their funeral.” I told him in between sobs. “Keno.” I shook my head and wiped my face. I tried to compose myself before facing. I had no idea why I said what I said to him about my parents and the funeral. Maybe I just gone really crazy. “Keno—.” He called out again but I was already up on my feet. My eyes still watering but I was finally able to control myself when I faced him. “No. Stop. I don’t want to hear it. Your explanation was due five years ago. I don’t need that now. I just want to be away from here. Away from you.” I just thought I’d fine more crazy if I stayed another minute with Apollo and I couldn’t afford that. It happened before and it didn’t end well. I didn’t need it to happen again. “I’m sorry.” He said after a while and I was about to tell him that it was not his fault when he spoke yet again. “But I can’t do that.” I looked at him. We stared at each other’s eyes. “You can hate me all you want but I’d rather you hate me with me knowing that you’re okay than risk having you out there alone fending for yourself when I can very well help you out.” What is he saying!?! “What is this all about!?! You became rich and you suddenly thought that you’re the one responsible for me is that it!?!” I saw him licked and wiped his bleeding lip and for a while I felt a little guilty but it didn’t last long when I heard what he had to say next. “Someday, Keno, when you’re ready to hear me out, I’ll explain everything to you. But for now, Keno, please, just please let me help you out.” I tugged at my hair in exasperation. “I’ve heard enough. And it didn’t change anything. I don’t need your help.” Nothing would ever change it anyway. What’s done is done. It’s all over. “Keno just—.” I shook my head. “For heaven sakes Apollo! I survived all by myself all these years without you or anyone to help me—.” The words I was about to say more were cut short when Apollo advanced towards me and held my hands. “I know. And I was both glad and sorry that it was the case. But I can’t change anything in the past. I could only make sure it doesn’t happen again. And that’s what I’m going to do whether you like it or not.” I looked at him and my hands in his before I realized what was happening and forcefully pulled my hands away. I was about to call him out for it but I was not able to say a thinly with what he said. “You’re staying with me Keno. And this isn’t an invite.”
