Janet waited until he was out of earshot, then turned to Wayne. “Thank you,” she said quietly. “That was getting embarrassing.” “My pleasure. Always willing to help a lady in distress.” “You don’t have to drive me home if you don’t want to,” she said. “I do have money for my own cab fare.” “It’s no problem.” “Well, I’m up near Pasadena, and I know you’re out in the Valley—” “Look, I don’t want to replay that last scene with you.
