Chapter 11
Wayne sat up with a start and bumped his head on the low ceiling of the dimly lit cubicle. The Dreamcap was like a circle of fire on his scalp, and he reached up quickly to rip it off his head. In those first few seconds, as awareness filtered back into his mind, he sat panting furiously, his hands trembling with the shock of whatever it was he’d encountered.
Outside the cubicle, he could hear Ernie White letting loose a string of obscenities in a louder voice than he’d thought the engineer was capable of. There was the sound of movement, and Bill DeLong’s voice asking what was happening. White didn’t answer, though; he just kept swearing as he tried to make some sense of the situation.
