The Temple, when they reached it, was unmistakable. It was an enormous marble building in a city of chrome and cement. It was three city blocks wide and five stories high; Wayne could not see from this angle how far back it extended. The facade was a colonnade, with massive stone columns standing four stories tall, all atop a long series of white marble steps. Wayne thought irreverently that there were no pigeons here to stain the integrity of the building’s design. There was a wide expanse of open ground to set the Temple apart from the rest of the city, a large park with artificial grass and no trees.
