Noah pov.
Jace and I had barely sat down when the door flung open and smacked loudly into the wall.
Adam should know better than to act like this. I scowled deeply at him. This may be a smaller pack, we may be superior to this man in every way, but he was still an Alpha; we had been invited peacefully onto his land and into his home. We were representing our entire pack here today. As our Beta, he should show this man some more respect. It was embarrassing, frankly, and I would speak to him about it as soon as we were alone.
“SHE IS UNDER AN ALPHA COMMAND!” Adam bellowed as angry as I had ever seen him. His face was a deep red, and I didn't miss the way his fists were clenched at his sides like he wanted to hit someone, and by the scowl on his face, I was sure that someone was the Alpha.
It was obvious that Adam was close to shifting by the way his eyes flicked between his human ones, and those of his wolf. It was rare to see Adam this upset. What could have made him so angry in the two minutes he had been gone? Then it hit me, wait? What did he just say?
“I- uh- I-” Alpha Michael stuttered feebly. I was disappointed to see such a clear sign of weakness from an Alpha.
“Calm down, Adam. What are you talking about?” My mind worked exceptionally fast, and I had already put the pieces together, but I needed to hear this myself. This was no time to be making assumptions. These accusations were serious.
“His daughter Ally, the one I’m supposed to mate. He commanded her to accept me, she doesn’t want this.” He jabbed his finger towards Michael aggressively.
Jace growled. Both Adam and Michael looked at him extremely confused. We hadn’t had the chance to tell anyone that Ally was our mate yet. And even if she wasn’t, we still would not have allowed this. You can’t take such an important choice away from someone by force. This man is disgusting.
“Go on.” I prompt Adam. His eyes snap away from Jace, and he looks at Michael with so much disgust.
Adam was such a laid-back person. He never got mad, and he was kind to everyone. It was surprising to see him show so much dislike towards a person, although I can’t say that I blame him when I felt the same.
“The Alpha here has lied to us. Ally didn’t even know about the mating until yesterday, and when she did find out, she tried to refuse me. I can’t say I blame her, I haven’t exactly been on board with any of this either, but I was at least given a choice. Michael here used his Alpha command on his daughter so that she had to accept me as a chosen mate. I was unwittingly going to force that poor women to mate me because of this despicable, low life.”
His fists were clenched at his sides, If we didn’t calm him down soon, I was afraid he might just challenge Michael right here in this room, and although I had no doubts that he would win, I did not want him becoming Alpha to some second rate pack out here in the middle of nowhere with a rogue problem, He wouldn’t want that either, he would not want to be so far away from his family back home.
“Is what our Beta saying true,” Jace and I closed in on Michael threateningly.
“She would have come around on her own with time.” Michael argued. He was defending himself, seriously?
“Then why didn’t you give her time? We discussed this months ago. Why wait until yesterday?”
He should never abuse his Alpha authority the way he had, to strip her choice of mate away. Who treated their flesh and blood that way. If he was that type of father, then I shudder to think what type of leader he was.
“How I choose to run my pack and my family is my business, and I do not have to defend myself to the likes of you three young pups,” he snapped, an Alpha never liked to be questioned. It was apparent that he never planned on us finding out this piece of information, or at least he hoped we wouldn't until it was already too late. What I wondered was why did he even come to us with this deal if his daughter was against it, or as we now know, entirely unaware. We wouldn't have left them at the mercy of vicious rogues if he had of asked for help. The deal was his idea. We only agreed to it to spare the man his pride, and I’ll admit to appease some of our guilt, not that he knew about that.
“The deal’s off.” Jace spat angrily.
As twins, we shared a unique bond, sort of like mates, only without the s****l attraction thankfully. Right now, I could feel the anger and disgust rolling off my brother in waves. I'm sure that in return, he could feel mine, although I was doing more to try and hide it.
If Michael wasn’t Ally’s father, Jace would have likely killed him by now. It was highly illegal to force a she wolf into a mating bond, and for good reason, it didn't matter if they were true mates or chosen; everyone deserved a choice. Once a wolf was marked, there was no going back.
“What? You can't do that, she has agreed, it's fine. I promise she will mate with Adam. There is no reason to call it off.” All three of us growled at this. It was almost physically impossible to keep control over my wolf right now.
'Jax, calm down. I am handling this.' My wolf Jax was feeling rather protective. He was more than unhappy that his mate was being spoken of like she was nothing more than something to barter with. I felt the same.
'We can't leave her here. Not with him. She isn't safe. Mate is coming with us.' Jax was usually extremely relaxed. He was an Alpha wolf so he was stronger than most, and he knew it, so he didn't feel the need to show that strength more than it was necessary. The pack didn't need a ruler anyway. They needed a protector.
'We will take care of her, don't you worry.' I assure him. He can't actually think I would leave my mate here, especially because I have no doubt that her poor excuse of a father would blame her for the deal failing. The idea that he would harm her makes me want to tear his head clean off his body.
“I will not mate a she-wolf against her will. I am no monster.” Adam began to charge at Michael.
I understood why. I would be furious, too, if I had almost forcibly taken a she-wolf from her home. If we had known the circumstances, we never would have come here, but if we didn't, then we never would have found our mate.
“Stand down, Beta.” my brother and I both warned him. We had to use our bodies to block him from getting to Michael.
“Are you just going to let him get away with it?”
I understood Adam’s surprise, this was punishable by death after all, and as a victim of the deceit himself, I normally would have never asked him to stop, but would Ally ever forgive us if we harmed her father. It was a risk I wasn't willing to take.
“The girl, Ally, is our mate.” I used my thumb to indicate between my brother Jace and me.
"She will be coming home with us.” I explained knowing that Adam would understand why I stopped him.
Jace and I obviously haven't spoken on the matter, but we didn't need to. I already knew that he felt the same way. We had waited for our mate for a very long time, and now that we had finally found her, there was no way we were letting her go. All we had to do now was tell Ally, although I don’t think she will mind, we are her mates after all. I am sure she already suspected that would be the case.
“Well, that’s great news.” Alpha Michael beamed as if that meant that all had been forgiven and forgotten.
“That’s great news for the pack.” he boasted with a look of pride on his face. It pissed me off to no end that he wasn’t even happy for his daughter, she had found her mate, the most important day of any wolf’s life, and he cared only about himself and how he looked.
“And how is that Michael?” not using the title Alpha before his name was a clear sign of disrespect, especially because we were on his land. However, I did it intentionally.
“Well, the agreement still stands then, you’re taking my daughter and will pledge your support to my pack.” I don’t like the way he’s crossed his arms over his chest, as if he has the final say. He doesn’t. He would be wise to know his place before I showed it to him.
“No.” Jace deadpans before I even get the chance to.
“What, what?!” Michael splitters.
Honestly, if my family didn’t feel a teensy bit responsible for the rogue problem, we wouldn’t even be here. This pack, because of their leader, wasn’t strong enough. You could be small and still be fierce. He relied on everyone else to deal with the threats, which made him a bad leader and a weak man.
“Ally is our Mate, not some bargaining chip. She will be coming with us regardless, and there is nothing you can do about it. It is strictly against the law to interfere with a mate bond and it is a crime punishable by death, even for an Alpha. She may stay if she chooses, of course, but only if she chooses. If she wishes, we will lend support to your pack, but we will not force the issue. You took her choice and her control from her, and this is our way of giving it back to her.”
I couldn’t agree more with Jace. Ally could choose, it would be good for her. Plus, it was a great test. As a Luna, you had to put the pack before yourself. You had to be forgiving but just, gentle but firm. How she handled this will say more than she could know about her and what type of leader she would be to her people. I hope that she chooses to protect the pack, this was her father's mistake not theirs, and I would be disappointed to see the rest of them suffer for it, but I would not sway her decision either way.
“Thank you so much, beta Adam, for your information, and most importantly for defending Ally before you even knew that she was your new Luna. This meeting may have gone a whole lot differently otherwise.”
Adams's chest puffed out with pride. We didn't give compliments very often. It wasn’t that Adam never did a good job. He was a fantastic beta, but if you give compliments freely, they lose their impact, not given enough, and you diminish one's confidence.
“It was a no brained really.” He replied.
“We will spend the night. It is a long journey back. I suggest that you take this time to say your goodbyes to your daughter if you haven’t already, as we leave first thing tomorrow morning.” Jace concluded the meeting. I was glad this was all over. I wanted to go and see my mate.
“I will have someone show you to your rooms.” I had a feeling Michael had a lot more he wanted to say; however, he didn’t pursue it. That has to be the first wise decision he has made this far.
A petite lady with curly brown hair and a frumpy maroon dress appeared in the doorway. Her black leather shoes scuffed on the floor as she shuffled nervously into the room.
“Yes, alpha,” she bowed slightly in Michael’s direction and then once in each of ours.
“Can you show these three gentlemen to their rooms for the night, please?” Michael asked her. She bowed ever so slightly in acknowledgement.
“Follow me, please.” Was all she said before leading us out of the room.
I was dumping my bags, and then I was going to find Ally.
