Chapter Four

1065 Words
CHAPTER 4 Alpha Lewis began to cultivate a sweet relationship with Madeline, trying to make up for the time they lost while quarreling unnecessarily. Alpha Lewis giggled at the thought of his first few weeks at work and what had transpired between them. After they realized that they worked at the same factory, they started a cold battle; fighting for who would laugh the last laugh. Alpha Lewis went as far as bringing coffee to whoever was on shift with Madeline and saying good morning with a sweet smile while ignoring her presence. He flirted with every female colleague, easily winning them over with his masculine charms, all in a bid to annoy Madeline. To retaliate, Madeline ignored his little theatrics, moving as though he were non-existent, refusing to grant him the satisfaction that would come with reacting or paying attention. “Anybody here?” she had asked that afternoon at the canteen, motioning to an unoccupied seat opposite Rosetta. “Yes,” she said. “You can have this one,” Rosetta pointed to another seat. Madeline, suspecting it was Alpha Lewis’ seat because she saw them chatting earlier, decided to make a show of stubbornness by refusing to take the one Rosetta offered. “And why would I want to sit there?” she demanded, placing her meal on the table and sitting down. She felt a presence behind her, it had a ruthless aura to it, an aura she associated with only Alpha Lewis, but she didn’t bother to turn back or act like she noticed. “That seat is taken,” Rosetta whispered, moving her gaze to Alpha Lewis subtly as a sign that he was there. Madeline went ahead to start. digging for her food. Dipping her fries into her ketchup and making an exaggeration of chewing and swallowing. “Rose, you need to try this,” she said with a satisfied nod, repeating the process, but this time stuffing the fry into Rosetta’s mouth. Rosetta tried to argue with her mouth full but ended up muffling and letting out a little moan after swallowing. “Delish, right?” Madeline asked, wide-eyed. Rosetta nodded, staring at Alpha Lewis apologetically as the drama Madeline was pulling on seemed to be getting to him. After the lunch break, instead of returning to his post, he followed Madeline. “What do you think you’re doing?” he asked. “We’re now occupying each other’s seats presently, huh?” Madeline ignored him, tapping away at the computer on her desk. “I’m talking to you,” Alpha Lewis said, his tone becoming uneven. Madeline continued with what she was doing, certain that talking to him was not in her job description. The rage brewing within him mounted, forcing him to pound the desk with his fist, therefore causing a slight vibration. “I am talking to you!” he thundered. Madeline exhaled, finally looking up to meet his gaze for the first time. “Go ahead, I’m listening,” she said calmly. “You know what you’re right?” Alpha Lewis asked, and without waiting for a response, he added, “A god-damned ingrate!” “Oh?” She asked, arching her eyebrows. “And you think any better? Dude, your arrogance stinks, and I’ll be the last person to feed your ego with whatever stupid attention you’re searching for.” Alpha Lewis felt smoke exiting through his pores as his rigidity increased. “Did she call him dude?” They engaged in a chaotic exchange of words, cussing each other, refusing every plea of their colleagues to calm down. The news got to the boss, and he called them to reprimand them, before receiving the punishment of a two-day suspension. After they returned from suspension, they went ahead to avoid each other. Alpha Lewis roared in laughter at the thought of their history, all the while he was searching for his perfect maiden while she was right before him, his archenemy. There, his reverie was brought to an abrupt halt by a call from home informing him about his mother’s ailment and requesting his presence immediately. Alpha Lewis and his mother had their disagreement as every parent has with every child, but nobody had a space in his heart the way he did. He didn’t need special information to know that he was supposed to hop in the next vehicle available and I was home. According to the information, the pack had been struck by another plague; a deadly virus that was killing people without trace. The first few days looked like a normal flu, but in a matter of weeks, it metamorphosed into something more scary with the victim coughing up blood clots, bleeding from the eyes and ears, leaving red veins in their eyes. Thankfully, the moon guardian noticed it early enough and would need Alpha Lewis to be present in the full Moon Pack. Alpha Lewis did not bother informing Madeline before leaving, but he left her a note, promising to come back as soon as she got better. . . Stay well, fairest. I'll be back soon. I had to rush home. It was time-sensitive. Stay strong for me while I return. I'll miss you. The note he handed to Rosetta read. *************** In the dynasty pack, Aurelius busy himself with a pack of wolves meeting, plotting with the other Alphas, and trying to come up with a permanent solution to their single nemesis. Aurelius was feared and respected among the packs, though not accorded the same respect as Alpha Lewis. “According to Nathan, Lewis will be coming back soon,” he explained. “However, I’m not going to depend on his information, so I asked my wolves to keep tabs on him, and they informed me that he had left earlier today.” The others listened tirelessly, eager to hear his plans and contribute their opinions while they awaited their big break to implement. They had met severely, trying to come to an agreement on which strategy was best for what they had in mind. “I agree with you on this,” Alpha Lucas of the Supreme pack piped in. “However, I’m not so sure of the time frame.” “I’ll handle all that,” Alpha Aurelius. Declared confidently. “I am convinced that this will surely put an end to this rubbish.”
