Before Cosette joined the crew for her newly casted role, she read over the scripts. She was cast as a supporting role as a very arrogant woman. Her character was a stubborn lady who was deeply in love with the main character, and she sacrificed whatever it took to be with him regardless of his disinterest in her.
Once the filming began, Elliot paused after a scene to rewatch the playback.
Cosette was talented for sure, and that was important for an actress. If she took her career seriously, Cosette may have a bright future ahead of her.
The acting industry was serious and was a big tank where most small fishes did not last long. Who knows how long Cosette may survive?
The following morning, Cosette arrived to set to see Elvin waiting for her.
“Mr. Tayler!” Cosette was flustered. “What are you doing here?”
“Ethan asked me to wait for you here,” replied Elvin briefly.
“Wait for me? For what Mr. Taylor?” Cosette did not understand.
“Don’t worry, please just call me Elvin.” He nodded politely.
Cosette nodded in agreement as they walked in together. They attracted quite a few eyes as they walked through the set.
“Isn’t that the actress who got injured?? She is a stand-in, right?” Asked one member of the cast.
“Well not in this film! She was stand in that last time but not in this one.” Another scoffed.
“I heard that Elliot contacted the screenwriter personally last night and decided to change the script. Any idea what that was about?” The discussion continued.
Cosette ignored the chatter walking into her room silently. Also overhearing the gossiping, Elvin looked over at Cosette and could not help but to admire her ability to zone it all out.
“Cosette, I am sure you are used to the working environment in the entertainment industry. I know it is rarely fair here and regardless of whatever position you got people would talk. All you can do is ignore all of it and focus on your job.”
“Oh, I know.” Cosette replied.
A few minutes later, they finally came across Elliot.
“Cosette! You look good! Happy to see you have made a full recovery.”
“Thank you! I feel good, and thanks so much for allowing me to have this chance,” responded Cosette.
“How could I not? I will make sure they get you that script. There has been some adjustment to the plot. Please read over it carefully,” Elliot snapped his fingers at a crew member, directing them over with an updated script.
“I hope I will live up your expectation,” replied Cosette, smiling shyly.
“Cosette? We meet again.” The pair were interrupted by a ringing feminine voice. Neither needed to see her to know who it belonged to. They turned to see Leyla walking toward them, so gracefully it was as if she were floating.
Elliot beamed at his star, wrapping his arm around her slim shoulders. “Ah, goddess. It Is great Leyla is here as she can help you far more than I can for sure!”
Leyla laughed, throwing her hair over her shoulder, “Elliot does flatter me so. I am sure Cosette does not need my help though. I still have not even fully gone through the script!”
Leyla smiled at Cosette but Cosette could see the coldness behind the fake smile.
Cosette knew she did not have the level of experience of actresses like Leyla. She had never played a leading role; she did not graduate with many rewards or experience or a degree in performance arts. Her inexperience was obviously something Leyla was planning on throwing in her face at every opportunity.
“Ah yes, Cosette was not born into a family that did not buy her way into success and experience.” A deep voice interrupted them once more. “She lacks experience but has natural ability. It just comes easy to her while others have to shower money to make up half her ability. Is it not crazy despite all the differences between you two, here you both are, starring alongside each other? A self-made talent and a trust fund baby.”
The group jerked around to see Ethan wink down at Cosette.
“You got this Coco; I am proud of you.” He smiled.
Leyla’s face had turned sour, and she crossed her arms across her chest.
“Honestly, I think you should select a different leading lady Elliot. Cosette would love it, I am sure.” Ethan continued, filterless.
Elvin who had walked up behind Ethan, tapped on his shoulder, trying to stop him. “Ethan…”
“He is just joking.” Elvin looked flustered.
However, Elliot just laughed and said nothing. Leyla looked equally offended at Elliot’s lack of defending her as she was at Ethan’s statements.
Elliot did not want to play sides in this awkward situation he had been forced into. Ethan’s dislike of Leyla was evident, and Ethan was not the best person to get on the bad side of. It was safest for him to stay silent.
Ethan held his arm out for Cosette and thye two headed toward her changing room, leaving the speechless group behind.
“Ethan, you know I appreciate your support but that was really unnecessary and put me in a really uncomfortable spot. I can take care of myself, please let me handle it myself,” said Cosette, sitting down onto the chair in her room.
Ethan did not reply, and continued shuffling through her makeup. So Cosette continued, “I am not a fool nor would I allow her to push me around but saying things like that will only cause more issues.”
Cosette knitted her eyebrows into a knot.
She knew as a newcomer on set, there was no way Ethan’s little speech had not made her the topic of gossip for the day.
“Are you embarrassed to be associated with me?” Ethan asked, frankly.
“You know I am not.” Cosette pressed her lips together.
“I know what you mean, but I get very defensive when I hear people talking about you like that. I do not know how you keep your cool. Guess I am just too anxious.” Ethan smiled, with a shrug.
Back on set, Cosette was ready to join the crew to fill into a supporting role.
The part was initially cast as Gigi, a popular star as well, but Elliot had told her Gigi’s surgeries interfered with her work schedule. Luckily, they had not begun filming yet so the change of cast was not very complicated.
Cosette drifted through the new script, trying to find the new changes.
“Please come over for makeup!” Cosette heard a manager shout outside. She placed the script down and turned to see a thin, hard looking lady standing at the door.
She walked over, portraying her upmost professionalism at all times. Most lead actors and actresses brought their own personal designers but being that Cosette was new to this scene and only a supporting role, she was designated a cast makeup crew.
