When Cosette returned two hours later, Ethan’s eyes shone with admiration.
Cosette usually wore a very light covering of makeup and Ethan was taken aback at the exquisite vision he saw before him.
Her beauty far exceeded that of Leyla.
“Do I look better now?” asked Cosette, her face flushed.
She hadn’t been fully made up in a long time and had almost forgotten what she looked like after making a real effort.
“You look so beautiful.”
Cosette smiled sweetly at Ethan’s words and then turned to carefully inspect herself in the mirror.
Her blond, curly hair framed her beautiful face, giving her an air of innocence and mystery.
Johanson beckoned to his assistant. “Bring me the full length black dress.”
The young man soon returned with the dress.
“Cosette, put it on,” Johanson instructed.
As Cosette looked at the plain black dress, she felt a twinge of disappointment.
Ethan frowned.
However, before either of them could say anything, Johanson added, “Don’t you trust me? This is my favorite full length dress and I wouldn’t have selected it if I did not think it would look perfect on Cosette.”
When Cosette finally walked out from the changing room, both Ethan and Johanson gasped in awe.
Johanson had believed that Cosette would suit this dress, but he hadn’t imagined that she would look so stunning and enchanting. It was as if she was a black rose in full bloom!
Stepping over to the cabinet, Johanson took a diamond breastpin from a box, then walked over to Cosette and pinned it to the dress.
“Perfect, just perfect….”

In the Hilton Hotel….
The charity dinner was really just an opportunity set up for those from high society to mingle and network.
Matt Phillips was an amiable host and wandered amongst the guests chatting.
Suddenly his assistant hurried over to him.
“Sir….”
Matte apologized to the person he was talking to and joined his assistant.
“What is it?”
The man whispered in his ear.
“Are you sure?” Matt asked looking surprised.
“Yes, he’s already arrived,” the man replied.
Matte paused for a few seconds and then walked towards the entrance.
As he approached, he could hear a commotion.
“Hi, Edward.”
“Edward, long time no see.”
Many people greeted Edward who simply ignored them and walked straight into the hall.
Leyla’s eyes flashed delight when she saw Edward walk in. Her surrounding entourage of young female admirers was filled with excitement too.
“Leyla, Edward is so caring towards you.”
“Yes, she’s right. Edward never attends social gatherings and yet he’s come tonight. He must be worried about you being here alone and has come to keep you company,” echoed another young girl.
“Leyla, you have been with Edward for almost two years. When are you going to get married?” another asked. The girls were fascinated by this big star’s relationship with Edward.
“We are still young, so we’re both focusing on our work at the moment. As for our wedding, we’ll be setting a date soon,” Leyla replied in a sweet voice, then added, “Anyway, I’m going to join him now. Let’s talk later.”
The girls were jealous as they watched Leyla walk over to Edward, despite all being aware of Leyla’s dubious family background.
Scrutinizing the crowd, Edward was unable to find the woman he was searching for. Irritated by the sound of idle chit chat surrounding him, he frowned.
“Edward, you are here.”
Hearing Layla’s sweet voice, Edward looked back and saw her approaching him
“Why are you here?” Edward asked in a cold, dismissive tone.
.
Leyla was immediately deflated but couldn’t help but feel angry on realizing that Edward had not come to the dinner to accompany her, but was here with a different goal in mind.
But what was his goal?
She was still absorbed in her thoughts when the sound of another commotion came from the entrance as two people walked slowly into the hall.
Edward’s eyes burned with anger as he watched the entrance.
Cosette and Ethan caught many people’s attention as the entered, hand in hand.
Cosette was somewhat nervous until Ethan allayed her fears. “Don’t worry,” he whispered in her ear, “I will stay with you the entire time.”
Cosette nodded slightly, then smiled a soft smile which made her look even more charming.
However, her smile hurt Edward’s eyes.
Edward watched Cosette’s intimacy Ethan and the frequent caring smiles she directed at him.
He found her smiles annoying and irritating.
Many of the other guests were gossiping at the sight of the handsome couple.
“Who is that woman with Ethan?”
“I don’t know. I’ve never seen her before.”
“She must be a newcomer.”
“I don’t understand it. All the girls chase after Ethan but he never responds, yet here he is with this newcomer!”
Despite their whispers, Cosette could hear them clearly and a broad smile covered her face.
However, her smile suddenly froze when she saw the man standing nearby.
‘What’s he doing here?” she thought to herself.
She averted her eyes, not daring to look into his.
Cosette was well aware that Edward never attended such functions and it was for this reason that she had agreed to accompany Ethan.
Matt was a close friend of Ethan. He raised his eyebrows at him by way of greeting but walked over to Edward.
“Edward, I am astonished that you have chosen to come today. Welcome!” he told him with a smile.
Edward’s eyes grew darker, since Matt was blocking his view. Matt sensed a chill as he stood in front of Edward, but put it down to his imagination playing tricks on him.
Turning to Leyla, Matt continued, “And I see the lovely Leyla is here too. No wonder you decided to come. Aren’t you two due to get married soon?”
Cosette happened to hear Matt’s words as she and Ethan approached.
Startled by what Matt had said, she suddenly felt faint and thought she was about to pass out until Ethan gently patted her shoulder.
Matt grinned at Cosette, “Ah, Cosette, you look so beautiful tonight. No wonder Ethan is obsessed by you.”
