The silence was unlike any noise that I’d ever heard in my life. I thought it was all in my head, but I slowly realized as time slowed down, watching as the wolf’s blue eyes gleamed in the moonlight, it was a product of whatever was happening around me. It was too late to figure out that the forest I’d walked into wasn’t any normal forest. There was a dark evil thing lurking here that was killing people of my small town. It was unfortunate that I was going to become the next victim. I closed my eyes. I’d let Jacob down again. This time though at least I could say that I’d tried. The time before, when he really needed me, I’d run away with my tail between my legs. The fear had crippled me and his pain had been an inconvenience. I’d deemed my social life was more important than my brother.
