I cleared my throat and simply passed her a smile. Of course, she must be thinking that I had smacked my head somewhere and had lost my sanity. I raised both my hands before she could ask me to spill.
"It's a long story, I'll explain later."
I needed their help with my outfit for the ball. I sucked at fashion, and I knew no one other than them to go to. An hour earlier, a dress arrived in our room with Audrey's brand name on it. I immediately knew what it was. She was sponsoring the festivities, and of course, this was how. She was offering her designed dresses to the Lunas for the evening. However, the one I received was nothing but white lingerie, and that too, was an ugly one.
"Just help me with this first," I said, holding out several dresses dangling from the hangers. "Go with the emerald one and pair it with minimal jewellery," Esme suggested, pointing at the screen. "Yeah, and leave your hair down," Winnie's voice came from somewhere behind the camera. I nodded, setting the rest of the dresses down and proceeding to give myself a look in the mirror. The emerald one did look good, indeed. Its metallic fabric was simple yet shimmery enough for the evening with the ball gown look I needed.
However, I didn't only need a good outfit for the night but good luck as well. I had a feeling that my rough start with CM Samara was a bad omen.
"Okay, so this isn't about the outfit anymore, is it?" Esme asked, noticing my anxiety. I huffed out, sitting down on the stool by the dresser. "The council member hosting us—" I began, inhaling deeply and rolling my eyes. "It's CM Samara."
Gasps followed by curses came out from the two of them. "Are you sure it's her and not somebody impersonating her?" Winnie said.
"I got a firsthand experience of her rudeness, and I am pretty damn sure it's her," I said, rolling my eyes.
"She's one of the most genius wolves; how come you're not mesmerized by her?" Winnie continued.
I dropped my shoulders to glare at Winnie, unbelievably. My poor sister thinks that every genius person is nice when people like CM Samara exist.
"The first thing she said to me was a warning about wolves hunting me down just because I was too nervous to make eye contact with her," I said, raising a brow at Winnie and watching her expression fall. "And now I don't know where I stand with her."
I huffed out, defeatedly. I was off to a bad start, and there was no way I could undo it. This was the first time I was representing my pack and Zayden's out in our world. I couldn't mess this up. It was my first chance to truly show my capabilities as a Luna and my loyalty towards the packs.
There was silence for a while once I was done voicing out my thoughts. The both of them exchanged a look, acknowledging that I was truly distressed about this. We sat in silence for what felt like forever when Winnie spoke up. She took the phone out of Esme's hand to face herself.
"When is the ball?" She asked, her face promising something. My brows furrowed, "Tonight at 7."
She nodded, "And what's the time there right now?" "Almost 2."
A smile lit up her face, "That's plenty of time to go and talk to her."
I stared at her confused, "But what if it doesn't work? She didn't seem like a talkative person."
Winnie raised a brow, "Just ask her the same question you had asked me. I am sure she'll have your answer," she said as if knowing she would answer it. "She is one of our scholars, and they tend to share knowledge," Winnie explained.
"I know this will work," she reassured, seeing my hesitation. "Besides, have you got a better idea?" Esme said, taking the phone back. "And what is this question exactly?" She asked, and I facepalmed myself.
"That, I will also explain later. For now, I have got a council member to befriend," I said, getting off my feet. Ending the call, I ran straight for the lift. Zayden was taking some calls and discussing things with some Alphas. He had left an hour ago to take some calls and then texted me to let me know that he would be back later.
That was all I needed right now. Some time to get my matters sorted. I pressed the ground floor, and the lift's door closed shut. I had no idea where to find my target or who to ask. So, I deemed it better to begin from the ground floor where I had last seen her. Yesterday, I was tired and nervous, but today, I won't be repeating the same mistake. My sisters had given me the motivation I needed. Winnie was right. CM Samara was a wise woman, or so I've heard. She was also known as a scholar other than her rank in the council. There was no better way to start a conversation with her than to show my curiosity for knowledge.
"Excuse me," I said to a servant passing by, once I stepped out of the lift.
He paused immediately, turning to me. "Yes, Luna?"
"I am looking for someone," I said, feeling confident suddenly upon being addressed as a Luna. It was as if the title held a sense of power in itself. Back when I used to be anxious around crowds and doubt myself, Mom would always tell me how I would naturally feel the power and confidence course through me once I became the Luna. And now, I could actually feel it happening. A part of me wondered how it would feel once I was married to Zayden and would officially become the Luna of the packs.
"May I ask who?" He bowed his head, displaying his respect. "CM Samara. Take me to her."
The colours drained lightly from the poor boy's face. He looked around before answering, "S-sure I would, but I am not sure if she's available at the moment." He stuttered, nervously, as if I would have him beheaded for politely declining. I didn't know about beheading, but I wasn't going to take no for an answer.
