Simon had always appreciated good food, and had spent most of his adult life seeking the finest culinary experiences in the world. He thought nothing of traveling dozens, even hundreds, of miles out of his way because he had heard of a chef who could work magic with ingredients as exotic as Kobe beef or as common as pork chops. But as Simon sipped black coffee on his garden bench, he knew he had never had a meal as noteworthy as the one Alain had just prepared for him. He had taken basic ingredients Simon kept in stock, and the few items Simon had purchased that morning, and presented a meal literally worthy of a king.
