Chapter 6Di watched as the clock on her work computer slipped from 11:59 to 12:00. She let out a breath and rose from her desk. She grabbed her purse, which had her new book tucked into it along with her lunch. The phone on Barb’s desk rang just as Di gave her a wave. Barb waved back, and sighed as she looked down at the phone. For a regular work day, they were getting a lot of calls. Di thanked her lucky stars that Barb decided to answer it again, and though she clearly slumped over the receiver and her tone was low and annoyed, Di ignored it. Di hurried back to the original spot where she’d found the woman. Since she’d already gone there once, it was easy enough to find again. She walked slower through the thatch of trees this time around, straining her hearing. The water sounded calm.
