Chapter 3“I feel like I’m f*****g losing it.”
“Language,” Barb said. She’d just poked her head out of the office bathroom, located just to the left of the foyer. She would have greeted anyone who cursed with a comment like that—but she doubled back when she noticed it was Di. Her blue eyes narrowed and she lifted her bifocals in order to survey Di from head to toe.
“What happened to you, sweetie?”
“I tried to read by the damn lake.”
“Language—”
“Darn lake. Or creek. Or whatever. I slipped in and…ugh I feel crazy today.”
“Well,” Barb said as she held the bathroom door for Di to step in. “It is the full moon tonight.”
Di chuckled. She’d seen the moon in the trees, yeah, but surely Barb didn’t buy into that. When she lifted a brow, though, Barb’s tone of voice became serious.
