Olivia price had a small smile on her face as she sat behind her office desk, reviewing a contract she was hardly paying any attention to. Hell, this was the fourth time she was going through the third sentence of the first page of the papers. Liv was occupying herself with the document just to pass time. She was excitedly waiting for 1 pm and it was currently 12:46 pm.
It was second to none, most especially in a male-dominated profession that a female needed to work ten times harder than her counterpart would ever think of, just to get the accolades she deserved for a job well done.
Olivia Price, a fearless and focused lawyer, in her late twenties has sacrificed so much for her law career. To her, winning every case she handled was a big deal which was why she always made sure she gave her all both in and outside of the courtroom.
But since the beginning of the year, Olivia has been working harder than she has ever worked in her life just to get promoted as a partner in "Smith & Pratt", one of the best law firms in the country. A promotion that she thinks and believes she deserves for all her hard work in the firm.
Liv had received partnership offers from other firms but she politely declined them. It was either Smith & Pratt or nothing. She had been a great admirer of the law firm since she was in high school. The firm was known for having great lawyers and she dreamt of not only being a great lawyer but also working in the firm. Olivia smiled as she remembered how much tears she shed when she received her appointment letter from Smith and Pratt.
Securing herself a position as a partner in such a reputable law firm would be an added feather to her cap, a legacy, something she would forever be proud of and maybe her parents ( Delilah and Austin who never approved of their daughter becoming a lawyer because of the dangers and unfairness in the profession) would for once in their lives be very happy for her.
Olivia couldn't concentrate on anything else. All she could think about was the meeting she would be having at 1 pm with Joe Peters, one of the senior partners of the firm.
He had stopped by her office this morning to inform her about the meeting which would be held between the duo in his office.
Olivia was trying her best to keep calm. She was trying so hard not to shed tears of joy. She had put so much hard work in her career and everything she had ever dreamt of was coming to reality.
Rumour has it that the firm was due for selecting new partners which were quite true and Olivia had no doubt that she made it to the new partners' list. Thanks to her dedication and hard work.
The board meeting was held yesterday so it only made sense to come to such a conclusion. She hadn't been to a bar in like forever but she was optimistic she would attend one this night with her friends, to celebrate her new status as Partner of Smith and Pratt.
Just as being a Partner involved additional responsibilities, it also came with additional benefits. Apart from the additional financial benefits, Olivia was more excited about moving to a bigger office and having her name engraved on the white-walled door with the partner title beside it. She was really proud of how far she has come in her profession and she couldn't wait to see what more the future had in store for her.
When it was exactly 1 pm, Olivia put aside the document, rose to her feet, straightened her dress (which showed her curves and made her look professionally sexy by the way) and proceeded out of her office.
As Liv humbly made her way to Mr Peter's office, she politely returned the greetings of a few colleagues and interns. Then the closer she got to the senior partner's office, she began to get nervous and didn't know why.
Before connecting her fist to knock on Mr Peter's glass-walled door, She swallowed painfully and took a deep breath.
Olivia knocked which got Mr Peter's attention. He smiled at her through the transparent door after looking up from his laptop to see who was on the other side of his office. Then he gestured for her to come in.
"Good afternoon Mr Peters." She greeted with a calm smile as soon as she stepped in.
"Olivia." The 52-year-old brown-haired man returned her smile and instantly rose to his feet.
Joe's office was literally one of a kind. Spacious (times three of Olivia's current office) and well decorated to his taste with beautiful pieces of furniture.
Behind the chair and huge mahogany desk was a small balcony which had two single couches opposite each other and a small table in the middle. Joe often entertained close clients and colleagues there, especially in the evening.
To the left side of Joe's office was his shelf which contained his neatly arranged books and a couple of personal awards. To the far right-hand side was his adjoined bathroom and to the far opposite end of his office was his visitors' area which had a couple of couches, separated by a centre table with a vase on it, a TV mounted on the wall, a water dispenser by the side and many more.
Joe Peters politely ordered Olivia to take a seat before settling on the couch opposite her, crossing his left leg over the right one.
Joe cleared his throat before he began his speech. "Olivia, I would like to commend you for all your efforts and hard work in this firm. You've proven to be a huge asset to Smith & Pratt and we can't thank you enough for your dedication."
Olivia smiled, "Thank you, Sir."
"As you know, myself and the other senior partners had a meeting with the board of directors yesterday and we all agreed on making you a partner of Smith and Pratt. But........"
Olivia's smile slowly started to fade away upon hearing the 'But sentence.'
"There's a task you need to complete before we can make you partner."
By now, Olivia's reaction was replaced with a frown. The good thing was that they actually wanted to make her partner but she couldn't help but worry about the conditions attached to it.
"What condition?" She asked with a heavy heart.
"The famous actor, George Westlan, will be playing the role of a lawyer in an upcoming drama series. The firm trusts you and that's why we chose you to coach him. George is a very good client of this firm and we trust you to teach him all that he needs to know for him to play his role as a lawyer."
"Upon the successful completion of the task, you'll finally be a Partner of this law firm."
"To coach George Westlan? Me?" She asked in utter disbelief. When Joe Peters mentioned Olivia had to perform a task, she thought he was going to give her a high profile case to handle. Obviously, handling a high profile case would be far better than babysitting a spoilt brat who calls himself a movie actor.
"Yes you, Miss Price." Joe Peters confirmed.
"With due respect, sir, don't you think this is unfair? How can a well-deserved promotion be tied to the successful completion of coaching a ruthless public figure?"
"You've said it all Olivia. George Westlan is a ruthless public figure!. After thoroughly accessing everyone in the firm, we came to the conclusion that only the fierce Olivia Price is capable of putting George in his place and most importantly teaching him all he has to know."
Olivia gave her Boss a 'you've got to be kidding me look' She was boiling inside but tried her hardest to keep her s**t. Joe was not only her senior at the bar but also her Boss and could fire her in an instant if she misbehaved.
"I'm sure there are a lot of lawyers in this firm that would be willing to put up with George and are delighted to coach him. You can call for a meeting in the conference room, and I swear you'll be surprised by how many volunteers you would have."
"Please don't do this to me, Mr Peters, I would rather handle a high profile case."
"Are you that scared of George Westlan?" Joe asked with a frown.
"What? Of course not."
"Then why the panicking? I had expected you to take this task just like how you've handled several other cases without any complaints."
"I know the Westlans have been good clients of the firm and that means not disappointing the firm's reputation in coaching Gorge Which also means I'll have to put up with his cockiness alongside helping him."Olivia voiced out. Suddenly, she felt like slapping George for accepting the role when he knows nothing about being a lawyer. Honestly, Olivia could already see him poorly playing the role of a lawyer.
Joe smiled sadly. "We trust you to put George in his place while coaching him. You have this power that makes us believe George will cooperate with you."
"How long will I have to coach him for?" She asked.
"Shooting starts in two months so he wants you to coach him for as long as you can. He's willing to hire you full time."
"Full time?"
Joe Peters nodded.
Olivia heaved a long sigh.
"Playing this role well will have an impact on his career in the long run that's why he's pretty serious about taking lessons from the best."
Joe stood up, strolled to his desk, picked up a file and returned to where he was seated.
"You'll find his contacts here and everything you need to know about his role. Then you can give him a call to fix a schedule that works for you both." He gave her the file.
"You've got this, Olivia price." He encouraged.
