ELEVEN Melitta's feet felt like they were floating all the way back to her mother's apartments. Out of all the would-be heroes, boys who were far better with a bow and a sword, he had picked her! She couldn't wait to start her training. Wondering what kind of monster Sir George would test her with first, Melitta dreamed of dragons as she packed her things. Her dresses would stay, of course – silk skirts would only get in the way in a fight. Melitta thought to fill a chest with her things, but by the time she had assembled all of her suitable fighting clothes, they took up scarcely a quarter of the space in the smallest chest her mother owned.
